Weighted blankets

Could I have some advice regarding weighted blankets please.

I want to get one for my teenager who hasn't slept that well for a number of years.

Can you wash them at home or do they need specialist cleaning? Do they come in summer and winter weights?? I see companies advertising on Facebook such as Calming Blanket and Kuddly Blanket - does anyone have any experience with these companies and are they legit? Is there anything else I should know about before I buy??

Thanks everyone ...

In my day without central heating we just had a pile of heavy covers

I got one from John Lewis , supposed to be 10% of your body weight.
Says you can wash it but it would weigh a ton.

They usually have covers you can take off and wash. Mine does and it's a Koala blanket. They're brilliant

Have you tried one out before? I spent ages considering buying one for DD1. She wouldn't even let the OT rest it on her - I was very relieved I hadn't!

My daughter had me put extra blankets on her bed and an articulate she likes the weight. I just cant see the difference in a kuddly one at 48£ or john lewis at 70-80 or most 9f them which are then 140.

We're low income and the dla has just come through so I want to get it right. Are they all much the same?
