Ate a really hot chip

Last night I ate a really really hot chip which got stuck in my throat for a few seconds.

It hurt like buggery but didn't think much of it.. This morning I've woken up with what feel like a big sore lump in my throat. I can barely swallow and it hurts Sad

DH can't see anything but I didn't expect him to because of where the pain is.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

You could call nhs online? You probably have burnt your throat but you don’t want swelling or infection to affect breathing or great long term issues. Can you breath/swallow etc?

BarbiesWorld · 14/05/2020 08:18

Breathing is fine but swalowling feels like it does when you have bad tonsillitis, I can but it hurts and I haven't tried anything other than liquids yet.

You'll have burned your throat/may have a blister.
Drink cool drinks/ice cream and take pain killers

BarbiesWorld · 14/05/2020 08:26

@TinnedPearsForPudding already had some but it's not helped at all

I'd get that checked out ASAP. It can continue to swell.

Will0wtree · 14/05/2020 09:02

Really don't want to alarm you but this can be dangerous. A man died in October last year from something similar www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/10/10/wedding-planner-died-burning-throat-hot-fishcake/

Very rare I assume, and I'm sure you'll be fine, but it would be worth ringing 111 (and maybe citing that case in case the handler doesn't know about it) and getting advice.

ScarlettDarling · 14/05/2020 09:02

I did similar with some mashed potato a few months ago. It hurt like mad for a few days and then was fine. My throat didn't feel swollen Like you're saying yours is though so it might be worth getting checked over.

TeddyIsaHe · 14/05/2020 09:04

Ow op. I second going to walk-in or your gp to get them to have a look.

Ibuprofen while you wait for an appointment.

Definitely call 111 for advice OP. Hope you're ok.

Afternooninthepark · 14/05/2020 09:07

I did this last week with a fish finger straight out the oven (I really should know better at 47!). It hurt like buggery and took a week to feel better.

shittingmysel · 14/05/2020 09:14

A guy at work once done this with a piping hot sausage roll - you are best to phone 111 in case as pp said the swelling can get worse. He took a massive bite couldn't eat for about a fortnight.

BarbiesWorld · 14/05/2020 09:15

@Afternooninthepark a week?!!

Well I've croaked to the doctors receptionist who has got me an appointment this morning to get it checked out. Which is a little worrying because i know they're only doing face to face appointments if they think you really need one.

Have had some liquid neurofen too after calpol when I got up.

You'd think at nearly 30 years old I'd know better than to just inhale my tea but apparently I'm an idiot 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm glad that you've got an appointment. Please let us know how you are later if you don't mind.

slipperywhensparticus · 14/05/2020 11:28

Your face to face as they cant see it over the phone x

AfterSchoolWorry · 14/05/2020 11:31

Maybe sip on some iced water too. Might be soothing.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/05/2020 12:29

How did your appt go?

HeyAllYouCoolCatsAndKittenz · 14/05/2020 13:28

how do u feel now op?

theThreeofWeevils · 14/05/2020 13:53

Owwww! Sympathies, OP.

rbe78 · 14/05/2020 14:03

Maybe try gargling with some soluble painkillers?

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 14/05/2020 14:24

In the meantime drink some whisky if you have it. Will sting like a bitch but helps prevent infection.

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/05/2020 21:07

Hoping OP is ok ! Thanks
