Does anyone here do fancy lettering/calligraphy?

Where/how did you learn?

I see lots of fancy videos pop up on Insta when I have the occasional scroll & think I'd like to have a go, but am not sure where to start :)

I did calligraphy as a teenager and have recently had another go. Just search on Pinterest for something you like and have a stab at it on some scrap paper.

I have a set of Rotring calligraphy nibs and it’s great to just have a go.

I did it at school, but that was about a million years ago.

@Wildernesstips I'll spend some time on Pinterest & looking for some tutorials.

Any cheap-ish pen recommendations for just having a go?

I’m learning. I find it helps if you can learn cursive first, then you can start freehanding and improvising.

Rose and Mellor do an online course that you can purchase and you get some supplies sent to you too in the way of a pen and ink and practice sheets or there are very cheap books and supplies at The Works.

I did it as a teen, then an afternoon course 30 years on.

Here’s one I made this week.

@CormoranStrike (it took me ages, a while ago, to place your nn!) I'd like to be able to do that.

I think I'll have a look at learning cursive first, as you suggested @NameChange84, and see where I go from there. I've found some short videos on youtube that might help.

As an added bonus...if I practise my handwriting, dd2 might as well Hmm

I did a course years ago. I loved it. We used quills and fountain pens. You can buy felt tipped pens that are cut for calligraphy so they are great for practise.

The set of pens I have cost £40 on Amazon, and I haven’t tried any others to recommend sorry.

I found it really useful just to copy out the alphabets. Some on Pinterest show you where to start and finish.

I'll have a look for the felt tip pens Cissy suggested, they might be cheaper :)
