I was doing a bit of work on our allotment last week. Whilst kneeling in some longish grass I felt a sharp stab to my knee. Got up straight away. I didn't look immediately but my whole knee was burning and felt hot to touch even through my jeans.
Got home and looked to see a large cluster of angry spots and a few others going up and around the back of my leg.
Now I'm still alive so not too worried but curious to know what got me.
Does anyone have any ideas, there were not nettles or thorny plants, just grass.

Blandford fly?

Khione · 13/05/2020 21:08

Ooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

That looks painful.

HollysBush · 13/05/2020 21:09

No idea. Wow that looks painful!

SeriouslySoDoneIn · 13/05/2020 21:12

Oh wow, no idea either but I’m curious to know too!

Jjacobb · 13/05/2020 21:13

It was painful to begin with but just itchy now.
Have googled the Blandford fly, nasty little critter. If that's what did it I've got off lightly. Dh will be doing all manual labour at the allotment from now on.

Bloody hell ! Wasn’t expecting that, but then nor were you.
Little bastard !
Hope it goes down soon.

gamerchick · 13/05/2020 21:16

Christ, how many of them bit you?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/05/2020 21:17

Wow, through your jeans too.

SeriouslySoDoneIn · 13/05/2020 21:20

Looks a bit like chigger bites?

(I googled “red spots going in a straight line up knee” then flicked through images til I found one that looked similar to yours. That’s how bored I am!)

SeriouslySoDoneIn · 13/05/2020 21:23

Here’s a bit more about Chiggers (btw I’ve never heard of them before). It’s not reading for the squeamish! Grin

OMG Chiggers turn flesh to soup. That is gross.

I've only see chigger bites in the American South, and they were a lot smaller. They itch, don't burn. We used to place dots of clear nail polish on them to smother them.
However, if they were chiggers, I wonder if you've had a reaction to them. I'm allergic to mosquito bites and they swell up big time.
Ugh. So sorry!

DamnYankee · 13/05/2020 21:51

*seen chigger bites

inwood · 13/05/2020 22:39

Horehound · 13/05/2020 22:40

macaroniandpizza · 13/05/2020 22:40

Holy fuck that looks so sore! Hope your bites heal soon op

whojamaflip · 13/05/2020 22:42

Looks like you might have knelt on an ants nest...
