Oh good god. Local dementor in chief has shared a ghastly, seemingly endless post about sending kids back to school, casting the government as small children.

'No Boris, you're not allowed that toy. Sorry Dominic, we can't hug you any more' etc

It goes on and on and on. It's the most appalling doggerel but she introduces it be saying 'I can't take credit for writing this'.

And she's going to be hunned to the point of suffocation. I can't snooze her, she used to be my best friend.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/05/2020 10:11

I saw a couple of that one going around at the start of the week. I decided to do my guts a favour and not click the "read more" to see how it continued.

I've seen my first positive share though, kind of do what you can and need to do to feel safe and I'll do what's right for my situation in a non-judgey way to sum up 5 or 6 paragraphs.

The knee jerk furore seems to be running out of steam for most people which is good because the feigned stupidity over the weekend became tedious very quickly!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:12

Sounds awful. I'm still shocked at the one saying she won;t be doing any PE with her primary pupils. That's rubbish. Nothing in the guidance saying not to. Children need to run around and have freedom.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:13

Listening to all this teacher idolising on Radio 6 atm, hmm. Apparently it is clapping for teachers tonight.

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 14/05/2020 10:14

Morning all - hi, @Jourdain11, hope you're feeling a bit better by the time you read this. You're a bit of a hero for me - I have some really pathetic, weepy, self-serving moments, yet I have so much less to deal with than you, and you're coping so well.

In other news - I probably murdered the entire population of a village single handed yesterday (apologies if you live in East Anglia...). I took some stuff to DS and his fiancee, they took me through the house, we sat in their garden (3 of us together! Gasp!), I fussed their lovely dog, and as I was leaving DS gave me a quick hug Smile

'Twas lovely, and on the way home I had music on in the car and was singing along at the top of my voice, something I haven't done since lockdown started. The improvement in my mood was massive and lasting, which was quite telling!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:21

Just been reading this for other swimming lovers...wonder where the nearest spot is...I know there is a river swimming club nearby on the River Avon...

"Ministers have said that people are now able to go swimming, but only in the sea, rivers and lakes. Public swimming pools are to remain closed.

Swimming and emergency rescue bodies have warned that this could prove dangerous if people who are not used to swimming in open water now have that as their only option"

There are river swimming spots in central London bet they will be busy

Drivingdownthe101 · 14/05/2020 10:23

We have a lake swimming centre nearby but they’ve said they’re still closed for the time being. Hopefully won’t be too long!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:25

well we are free to swim from beaches in the sea and rivers...we usually go to Studland (naturist!) in Dorset. Not the nudie bit but the bit inbetween which tends to be very quiet.

It is National trust but you can go through the dunes which we do anyway to avoid the huge parking fees

heroku · 14/05/2020 10:26

Just got sent this drivel via WhatsApp. Erm...what about the NHS staff and key workers who've been working since the start of all this?

Also seems a bit of an insult to the bravery of those who actually were "sent over the top" to make that comparison.

Some National Trust open from 13th May...in England

"From Wednesday 13 May we’ll start opening some car parks in England, in line with government advice, so people can access fresh air, open space and nature. Car parks which are staffed and have facilities, will take longer."

MinnieMountain · 14/05/2020 10:28

Our local lake is starting swimming from 2nd July. I've told DH I shall be going to both the early morning and evening sessions.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:29

FFS this is what my MIL is dementing about now, the factory worker thing as DH is in manufacturing. Not what we need to hear right now.

His company are Swedish based and seem very good on the new days of working. He's not a production line worker either, but goes in as a contractor in setting up machinery etc.

justasking111 · 14/05/2020 10:29

I do wonder if the child kawasaki thing wasn't around for a couple of years and it is only now they are joining the dots. I am convinced people had covid last year but were treated for flu pneumonia through lack of knowledge. 100 children is awful for the parents but not a pandemic. Measles and chicken pox still make some children very sick no one demands schools are shut down for this

Shodan · 14/05/2020 10:30

Why are all these meme-makers always so lacking in basic SPAG? Not that I'd be impressed with them even if they were properly written, but still...

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 14/05/2020 10:31

Also seems a bit of an insult to the bravery of those who actually were "sent over the top" to make that comparison.

That meme is so badly thought out. I think a lot of soldiers in WW1 died futile deaths. Had they not been sent over the top, they'd have been safe. If you have factory workers and builders sit at home 'safely' for the next few months many will end up in poverty or die. It will take longer but they will still suffer. They have the tiniest chance of dying at work - they are more at risk of coming to harm from falling off scaffolding or getting a hand stuck in machinery or something.

Drivingdownthe101 · 14/05/2020 10:34

justasking111 my daughter was very ill with scarlet fever in October (hospitalised). 16 kids in her class had it, some seriously, some not so. They didn’t close the class, let alone the school.

iamapixie · 14/05/2020 10:36

Shodan haha
The scattergun use of the apostrophe! It's the fact that they obviously take ages thinking up this turgid crap so you'd think they could spend a couple of mins editing.

Bollss · 14/05/2020 10:37

@heroku i must tell DP he is a war hero as he's been at work throughout and he isnt even a keyworker!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:37

The education secretary has told teaching unions opposed to schools reopening next month that Denmark’s experience shows that coronavirus infection rates can fall after children return to the classroom.

Gavin Williamson criticised “scaremongering” and told MPs that all teachers, children and their families would have access to testing if they felt unwell. Denmark’s infection rate has fallen since the reopening of kindergartens and primary schools a month ago, the first major easing of lockdown restrictions in Europe. Its R rate has fallen from 0.9 to 0.7."

Interesting. Yes good to see the gov standing up to the unions www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/denmark-shows-schools-can-reopen-safely-gavin-williamson-tells-unions-jxbxj65nf

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:39

Also

Yesterday, however, the government’s chief pandemic modeller said that teachers were more at risk of catching the virus from their colleagues than their pupils. Professor Graham Medley said that the evidence suggested children were “not playing a key role” in transmitting the disease. In an online lecture delivered to the Isaac Newton Institute at Cambridge University, he added that data showed “teachers are very good at transmitting to each other, but less good at transmitting to the children”,

OK. Interesting!

GroEggAndHam · 14/05/2020 10:40

Ooh! Waving at Orange from across the water Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:40

So the overall feeling is that the teachers are more of a problem than the children! Grin

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 14/05/2020 10:41

Morning all. Jourdain hope your stomach is feeling better soon. That sounds painful and scary.

I feel the need to say 'ah!' If you are insisting tourists STAY THE FUCK AWAY from Cornwall/Devon/the Lakes for the rest of the year, you will all be absolutely screwed. The damage will dwarf what the virus does. This whole 'we don't want you here' is so short-sighted, especially when certain regions will lose some EU funding and there will be a recession even with everything getting up and running soonish. I had no plans to go to Cornwall this year but the longer I've been stuck in the more I've been craving a trip there. I can't see why if I went and stayed in a self-catering cottage and got takeaways and went for solitary walks I'd be harming anyone. I'd drive there too so no opportunities to murder anyone on the train, alas. People are kidding themselves if they think they can get through the next year without such a major source of income.

I am finding myself getting increasingly ratty and teary at little things so am just trying to recommit to staying away from FB/Twitter/other posts on here full of doom and fear.

In nicer news I'm going to see a very un-dementory friend tomorrow. We are going to walk somewhere lovely and I am hoping there will be some illicit hugging going on too. If I don't post again tomorrow I'll obviously just be DEAD. I am making plans to see my therapist in person next week too. He is happy to meet me outside somewhere quiet.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:41

I hope you have your clothes on GroEgg! Smile

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 10:42

Look at these tourists at Durdle Door! Walking down the path 2m apart! Shocking. (not)
