Screening between front doors - nosy neighbour

My next door neighbour has just got a Ring doorbell. Our front doors are exactly opposite each other, about 4 metres apart. Every time I leave the house (even to pop into our garage in my pjs!) it triggers the doorbell. She's already pretty nosy popping out when I'm on the driveway but now it's all the time! We can't have front fences due to deeds but I want to get some trees in pots or something to put down the border to screen us. It's DH's birthday next month so that can be the reason they're bought. We've had trees by the door for decoration for years but the last one died a couple of years ago and we haven't bothered to replace it.

DH bought me a video doorbell last year but I wouldn't let him put it up unless it was a 90 degree angle to the door, showing people coming up the drive, rather than flush to the door videoing the neighbour. She clearly has less scruples!

I need a diagram....

I would go out and buy 50 wind chimes.

She obviously has the settings on too high? These are easily adjusted on the app for the doorbell, you'll only be getting picked up if you see the lights come on.

Some of these suggestions are great. Love the idea of just standing there in the nude.

The ring doorbell comes with a bracket that allows it to be angled so that it is not face one. I would ask her to put that behind her ring doorbell. It is a very easy thing to fit, everything you need to fit it comes in the box, including the drill bit and screwdriver. It is probably still in the box.

She can show you on her phone what she can see from a live view too, the doorbell doesn't have to rang to activate the camera, any movement activates it so if she has this to tinkle everytime there is movement I would be tempted to get something to set it off constantly. Bamboo may even do that. Also bamboo is a grass and not covered by the high hedge laws Wink

Ours is set to notify us of a ring only, and it takes a snapshot every so many minutes so when I look back through the footage it says "motion detected" meaning I can just look at that, not 24 hours of footage.

Interesting to hear the Ring version comes with an angled bracket. I'm going to have to get my best negotiation voice on and ask her to use it. The cheapo version DH bought me doesn't have that feature!

Ok i understand your frustration buuut...

Has she ever mentioned shes watching you for you to know she is?

I have a ring doorbell & in the morning when the sun is bright every car sets it off and its infuriating and in the evening it has about a 10second delay.

Ill tell you something we checked every notification it sent us for the first 2 weeks and then it got super boring

Now we only look if we are out & doorbell rings.

So as annoying as it is, could it be your nerves that she can see more than shes watching you every time you run to the garage? Theyre pretty much a somewhat useful novelty but incredibly boring after a few days!

Hers may come in use for you one day though!

TinnedPearsForPudding · 13/05/2020 18:28

Does your ring doorbell record her coming in & out of her house? If not, how have you avoided doing so? Could you suggest the same solution to her perhaps?

Festipal · 13/05/2020 20:03

We haven't installed ours because it's a cheapo not Ring one and DH can't work out how to fit it on an angle as it doesn't come with that bracket. For privacy reasons I wouldn't let him fit it but I might just say sod it and do tit for tat! Or not. Can't decide!

She has always been a nosy neighbour, popping out to her garage or water the flowers or dead heading them right when I'm putting the DC in the car to go somewhere.

To be honest i dont see what you have to lose then by setting yours up.

You will both have direct facing ones and regardless of cheapness im assuming yours has the motion detection so you can see whatever you think she is seeing!

Just do it at worst you will hate it & feel bad and take it down again & at best it will give you peace of mind.

Just install it
