Running decimates appetite... anyone else?

Actually exercise in general.

I’m trying to put on weight as very underweight.
At the same time, I love running, couple of strength training sessions and v regular yoga.

So I start the day thinking - ok I’ll ensure I have a huge breakfast. I look forward to it. And then I go for a run (I have to go very early ie out the house by 6.30am latest), and when I get back - appetite gone. Zero desire for breakfast.

It’s fine for lunch and I really enjoy a big full lunch

But for at least a few hours of running and any ant kind of exercise but most markedly running - it destroys my appetite.

Anyone else?

Nope completely the opposite, it makes me starving which rather defeats the purpose of the run (I’d like to lose a bit). Could you eat breakfast first? Or have some sort of high calorie protein shake before hand?

No chance before
It’s fine by lunch and I eat a LOT for lunch
But not gaining weight. Mainly because I do a lot of exercise and very fast metabolism.

So I really should not be missing breakfast. I have porridge before I go to bed so that means I’m not actually “missing” a meal but dietician said aim for 4 meals.

I can’t change timing of run. So may be just need to force it.

I was just curious if any one else the same

What about a high protein shake or full fat yoghurt smoothie after your run so you're just having a drink, rather than eating breakfast?

I don’t eat before I exercise and yes often I don’t “feel” like eating afterwards, but I do make myself drink a protein shake-
2 scoops of protein
Some chocolate soya milk
A banana
A big spoonful of peanut butter
Ice

Then a whizz that all together and that keeps my full until lunch.

I can't eat before or after a run. I'm just very thirsty for ages after and will have a coffee then a protein shake. It's usually an hour or 2 before I can eat.

Could you change the type of running you do? I feel sick after a run if I really push myself. Especially if I run long distances. If I make a more moderate effort it has no impact on my appetite.

I think it's fairly common for exercise to suppress appetite, especially if exercise is intense.

I don't eat before swimming in the mornings and often then don't eat until lunchtime. If I was at work if be ravenous by 10am despite having breakfast.

I think if you're underweight you do need to try and eat even if you don't feel like it.

Good point re appetite when I don’t exercise

Then I most definitely feel like breakfast and end up focusing too much on food - snacks snacks snacks!

I like the protein shake idea- I think that could work
Thank you
