Dress for funeral for 10/11yo

I need to get a suitable outfit for my nearly 11yo DD1 for MIL's funeral. Only 10 of us are allowed at the crem and there's obviously no gathering afterwards, but we want to do our best.

Plain black is out as it would never get used again, and Mil wouldn't have liked it. And obviously not a 'party' dress.

I've spotted something for DD2 from Yumi with a black ground and cat pattern which is perfect. But everywhere else things seems a bit bold, bright and beachy at the moment. (They won't wear the same outfit.)

Anyone got any suggestions?

Would this work? It goes up to age 16 in Next, online

Honestly? Just wear something smart and old that can be thrown away afterwards. Basic trousers and blouse. Probably be more comfortable for your DD too.
I bought a beautiful blazer for my mums funeral, could never wear it again afterwards as was too painful. But yes, that dress would be fine if you have to get something new.
Sorry about your MIL, hope the funeral goes ok Flowers

Sorry for your loss.

What about a jumpsuit? John Lewis have 30% off at the minute and have a couple of navy ones. They could be worn again with trainers or sandals.

DD1 is a skinny wee thing so trousers are always an issue, but the dress is great.

Flowers Thank you all, it's been a tough few weeks. She was a fabulous mother in law, and grandma.

When my dad passed away, none of the grandchildren wore black, they all chose their favourite outfits to wear, my niece wore a dress, leggings & her bright purple Dr Marten's boots.

Nat I think if that is appropriate or not really depends on the funeral. I have been to “celebrations of life type” ive also been to a lot which were anything but and it really wouldn’t have been appropriate.

I like the next dress posted further up. It looks quite light so should be suitable if it’s a bit warmer too.

Could you do something like this and put a white top underneath it?

Sorry to hear your MIL. My children don't wear black to funerals either, they tend to wear an outfit that has a bit of colour, only teenager wore black to her aunts funeral, but that was more that she only had black dresses!

H&M have some nice dresses and play suits in that could be worn again.
