It would make me feel so much better!

In my first pregnancy I accidentally ate almost raw fish (and it wasn't sushi 🤢)

This time at around six weeks I accidentally took 3 x as much multivitamin as I should for a few days (changed product same brand and old was 3 a day, new 1 a day!) I've been reassured it's fine, but still feel utterly fixated on it because it seems such a sensitive time

Please share your stories if you have them to help me feel better!

Before I knew I was pregnant with DD2 I went to a big party. Spent the evening drinking copious amounts of champagne and wine, dancing, and playing on the bouncy castle and dodgems. It was my first real night of freedom after having DD1.

LuluJakey1 · 12/05/2020 08:25

I was 8 weeks before we even realised I might be pregnant. We were thinking about a baby so it was a nice surprise.

By then I had been having a drink - nothing excessive, couple of times a week- I love Brie and Cambazola and had eaten both a number of times, as well as other unpasteurised cheeses. Was drinking several cups of coffee a day.

GP said not to worry so I didn't. DS was fine.

Dogman2020 · 12/05/2020 08:30

Well nothing along the eating topic, although I did consume a dangerous amount of salt and vinegar crisps in the first 12 weeks.

But it was around Christmas and thought I’d get the decorations down from the loft, only as I got up there the ladder moved and I couldn’t get back down.
Nobody else in and I knew do didnt have keys I had to jump down around 10foot which sounds nothing but was terrifying. I was 10 weeks pregnant and I still look back an think what was I thinking!

Day after I peed on a stick I went to Thorpe Park and went on all the big rides. I didn’t really believe it and it had been planned for the week before so I thought it would have been done anyways...
accidentally drank beer at a work conference because I forgot I was pregnant Shock
Forgot to take folic acid and vitamins for 4 weeks.
Missed midwife appointments.
Probably lived off basically raw mince for 2 weeks as I couldn’t stand the smell/texture of anything else.

Basically I was a horrible pregnant woman. Don’t be like me. My son is fine though.

October2020 · 12/05/2020 08:31

I was actually sat eating a brie and bacon sandwich when I read the guidance about soft cheese!!!! Thankfully I was reassured that so long as it is cooked it's fine....not sure how cooked a toastie is... oops!

OccasionalNachos · 12/05/2020 08:39

I didn’t know I was pregnant until 8 weeks & up until that point I drank multiple strong coffees every day. I also ran, cycled and lifted weights a lot, including running a fast half marathon at approx. 6 weeks in hot sunny weather.

Obviously no folic acid/vitamins before I found out either. I couldn’t always stomach the huge pregnacare vitamins so they were sporadic.

Had quite a few gins & wines a few days after I’d conceived... I know the risk is minimal but I still felt crap about it! I did have the occasional glass of wine when knowingly pregnant, but the binge-drinking in v early pregnancy did worry me unnecessarily.

After going cold turkey on coffee, the tiredness took over and I always had a couple of cups a day throughout pregnancy, and more if I needed it.

Please do relax, you’ll be fine!

Went on a hen do before I found out and was err, quite inebriated. Cried to the midwife who said pretty much all the women she sees does the same thing!

Forgot I was pregnant and ordered a pint at the pub, had a few sips before realising! Shock

Ate rare steak, like blue rare. And never remembered to take my vits! I was crap at being pregnant really Grin Dd is fine though.

ContessaferJones · 12/05/2020 10:22

DS1:
took all the drugs in the world to offset a vile cold in the first week after conception (not that I knew this)
Ate raw meats in a foreign country
Had a mouth x-ray
Found out you weren't meant to eat peanuts at around 38 weeks gone

DS2:
Had a cervical smear at 4 days post-conception
Got very very drunk about 2 weeks post-conception
Ate runny egg in a burger when at the pub

They both, miraculously, are fine!

ChumpChop · 12/05/2020 10:27

I found out I was pregnant at 10 weeks and didn't know I was that far along til I was 12 weeks. When I went for a scan and saw a whole baby ShockGrin

So I never had folic acid as it never occurred to me as we weren't trying

GetTheSprinkles · 12/05/2020 10:34

I ate a piece of feta cheese that was gone off (scoffed it and then realised it had tasted awful). Panicked for a good 2 days!
Also sprayed the cat in strong flea spray before reading the package which tells pregnant women not to use it :/

borntohula · 12/05/2020 11:31

Got drunk and smoked before finding out.

CoffeeDay · 12/05/2020 11:48

DD was conceived on a holiday and on the flight back I was off my face on Xanax. My early pregnancy symptoms were identical to PMS and an early period (including quite a lot of implantation bleeding) so I was liberally tossing back codeine and caffeine to keep up with a stressful work schedule. Definitely no vitamins at all.

I also had no idea pregnant women weren't supposed to eat deli meats! I only heard about runny eggs, raw fish etc. I ate ham sandwiches and raw salami with breadsticks every day of my first trimester because for some bizarre reason that was the only thing I could stomach with morning sickness.

Also to dispel the myth that ultrasound scans are harmful. We had bit of a scare regarding a potential heart problem so I was closely monitored during the second trimester. Each scan lasted 30-45mins and I had 10 in total. Luckily the heart developed normally and nobody mentioned anything about risks of scans. During my last appointment the doctor was really kind and did a 3D scan with picture for free because she felt sorry I had to come in so often :P!

Needless to say DD is totally fine and dancing around the living room now, refusing to nap.

DC1, didn't find out until I was 6wks. During those six weeks I'd been taking codeine for a back problem, drinking (not at the same time as the codeine), smoking, ate street meat in a foreign country, and went dune buggy riding. During the pregnancy I continued to eat lots of runny eggs because they were just about the only thing I didn't throw up.

DC2, didn't find out until 8wks and kept getting negative tests despite feeling like I was pregnant. During the 8wks I was drinking as it was my birthday followed by SILs birthday followed by best friend's hen weekend. Went to a spa and had various treatments, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, etc. Had given up smoking by that point but during the pregnancy had cravings for raw red meat so had lots of "compromise" steaks (medium rare instead of very rare), again it was nearly the only thing I could eat without throwing up.

DC3 found out at 3wks when the vomiting began (HG). I was chasing promotion at work so didn't want to tell them yet and really pushed myself to keep up with my normal jobs including travelling down to Manchester spending almost the entire train journey locked in the toilet throwing up, carried on hefting files up from records and going into the archive storage units - for anyone who hasn't seen one, they're big floor to ceiling double sided shelving units on runners and there is a wheel at the end of each row that closes and opens corridors between them depending on which side of the shelving unit you need. I also spent the first six months of the pregnancy taking daily anti-emetics and maximum dose omeprazole.

DC4 I found out very early again thanks to HG, four days before my period was even due. Far cheaper than a pregnancy test but much more unpleasant. HG much worse fourth time around and was on medications again for the entire pregnancy.

KKSlider · 12/05/2020 13:07

Oh, and I had no folic acid or vitamins because I vomited them all up.

BlueChampagne · 12/05/2020 13:10

Think I was still doing a wine tasting evening class when first pregnant with DS1. And not spitting it out, either ...

jackparlabane · 12/05/2020 13:13

Most Brie (ie from supermarkets) is pasteurised and thus fine, and UK sushi has to use flash-frozen fish so also fine.

With dc1 I did a pregnancy test on NYE and when it was negative I drowned my sorrows, big time (and pointed at SIL lots, saying you've got to give birth next year and I don't, ner ner na ner ner). And was working 6 day weeks, 12 hours a day, fuelled by more coffee than I'd ever drunk.

Turned out I was pregnant, 7 weeks on NYE, didn't find out til March when doc said it wasn't flu...

KKSlider · 12/05/2020 13:18

Also to dispel the myth that ultrasound scans are harmful. We had bit of a scare regarding a potential heart problem so I was closely monitored during the second trimester

I had loads of scans.

DC1: scan at 7wks due to bleeding. 12wk dating scan. Scan at 15wks due to bleeding. 20wk scan. 22wk scan because they couldn't see both legs at the 20wk scan thanks to awkward positioning. 24wk scan due to bleeding then four weekly scans for the remainder of the pregnancy so 11 in total.

DC2: scan at 9wks, no reason other than I was at hospital due to HG and they wanted to confirm everything was where it was supposed to be. 12wk scan. 20wk scan. 22wk scan to check kidneys as they seemed small at 20wk scan (they were fine). Scan at 40wks to check position after lack of movements and slow labour not progressing. 5 total.

DC3: scan at 6wks for bleeding. 10wks for bleeding. 12wk scan. 16wks for bleeding. 20wk scan. 24wks for bleeding. 28wks for bleeding (bleeding stopped at that point but prior to that was every four weeks on the day my period would have due). Position check scan at 36wks. 8 total.

DC4: 6wks to check location and dates. 8wks for bleeding. 12wk scan. 20wk scan. High risk due to level of vomiting and issues with previous delivery so growth scan and consultant appointment every two weeks until 36wks when I was admitted to hospital (8 scans). Daily scans alongside twice daily trace then delivered at 37wks. So 19 in total.
