I've just chopped some carrots to go with our cottage pie and there are diamond shaped holes all the way through one of them. It was bad enough seeing it but I stupidly googled why and ohhhhhh the horror. There are pictures of this disgusting phenomenon.

Bleurgh.

I thought it was caused by some kind of worm or something but it's just due to them being old or dry. Is it just the holes that bother you, I actually thought they were quite pretty.

Oh they are the epitome of vile.

I've had to chuck a tea towel over them and leave them for a child to clear away. I may never eat carrots again. I have to be careful with pasta. Penne is quite risky.
