Doing a quiz tomorrow via Skype with my parents. Trying to think of some questions and I'm drawing a blank! Does anyone have any good ones? Grin

Are you doing different rounds? I have a sports round and a history round I had written.

Who is the immaculate conception referring to?

(A lot of people say Jesus, but it's actually his mother, Mary, who was "immaculately conceived".)

Toddlerteaplease · 11/05/2020 12:25

@LoseLooseLucy good one. No one ever gets that right

A colleague of mine runs a weekly quiz in a detention facility, so here are a few from my contribution. Current affairs seems cruel in retrospect Blush Hope they help!

For 10 points (a very quick way to write a round!):

-Give ten historical events
-They put them in chronological order
-One point for each, but as soon as they get one wrong, they forfeit the rest of the points.
-They can leave events out if they're not sure (but that reduces their possible marks)

Hopefulmidwife · 11/05/2020 12:27

Ooo thank you!

The names of all the firemen in Trumpton, including the Captain.
Pugh, Pugh, Barney MacGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble & Grub, and Captain Flack.
(FYI, Pugh & Pugh were twins 😁)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/05/2020 12:33

Oh, general knowledge.

In which sport would you have a chukka? (Polo)

Which shoes have hallmark red soles? (Louboutins)

Where can you currently find Stephenson's Rocket? (National Railway Museum in York)

In which opera would you find the character Dandini? (Cinderella/Cendrillon — people can often get this one if they've seen the pantomime)

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/05/2020 12:34

What was the UK's first full length motorway & when was it opened? (M1, 1959).

HolyMerlot · 11/05/2020 12:36

Which city was Boris Johnson born in? (NYC)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/05/2020 12:36

Sorry, for the last one it could also be La Cenerentola. But it's basically Cinderella in varying languages.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 11/05/2020 12:39

Give the actual names of ten titular fictional characters: eg The Merchant of Venice, Lady Chatterly’s Lover, Bodyguard, Interview with The Vampire, A Woman of No Importance, Iron Man and ask them to either name the book/play/film/TV show or match them up from a list depending on how difficult you want it to be. A nice format because you can easily match the questions to your family’s interests.
