Essential oils - anyone here use them?

Does anyone use essential
Oils to fragrance their home? I used to use lavender oil and I'd like to go back to trying them.

I sprinkle a few drops on the pad for my steam mop. It lightly scents the bathroom when I steam clean the floors.
I also put a little on a cotton wool ball and tuck in radiators. Be careful with them, they can be toxic. I found even a single drop of tea tree diluted in lots if water made my skin burn quite badly. Animals may also find them toxic.

I use peppermint in my home to deter bugs. And lavender on my pillow

I often use lavender and/or geranium on an electric burner for fragrance

I burn citrionella oil in the kitchen and the house feels so fresh and clean.

I use lots in a humidifier from bergamot/sandalwood to vetiver. I use them for calm - I also have an autistic child and have read many positive things about essential oils and Autism

I use mine in a diffuser - lavender to relax, eucalyptus and tea tree mainly. Love it!

youngestisapsycho · 10/05/2020 21:36

Can anyone recommend an electric oil diffuser, less than £50 please?

IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2020 21:39

No. I can't use them or reed diffusers, air fresheners, fabric softeners etc as they all give me an intense instant headache.

Perrmuda - tea tree is a very strong oil so you have to be careful! You can’t dilute essential oils in water - you have to dilute in a carrier oil. I use sweet almond oil but there are lots of choices out there. But just using water acts the same as using it neat I’m afraid

Thanks everyone! To be clear, because they can be quite toxic undiluted, I only ever put a few drops in water in a traditional burner for the fragrance. You really need to look at carrier oil for using them in the bath or as a massage oil.

It sounds like I know what I'm talking about 🙈 - I really don't!

What I want are combination of oils. For instance, lavender works really well with so many other oils.
