Ectopic pregnancy?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can advice me or let me know if they’ve had any similar experience. I found out I was pregnant around a week ago. I’m still very early (5weeks4 days).
The day after I found out I experienced pain on my lower left side and also on my right side nothing that was excruciating and I carried on with my day . However it was mostly on my life side. Due to this I googled the pains which I wish I’d never done. From this of course ectopic pregnancy came up and I read about shoulder tip pain. Now this may sound mad but not longer after reading this I began to experience sharp pains in my shoulders on both sides and collar bone area. I then rang the epu in my area. She advised that they would be happy to see me but I would have to take the risk of coming into hospital with the current covid outbreak. Due to living with a vulnerable person I don’t really want to go in unless I need too. The pains In my side are not extreme and they’ve calmed down however I still have pain along my shoulders and collar bones. This has been going on for around 4 days.

I’m just wondering if anyone can advice and if they’ve experienced anything similar?

Thanks In advance

Personally, I would go because an ectopic can become life threatening if hot picked up and treated. Hospital will have infection control procedures in place and you will be well away from anyone with a known CV19 infection. They wouldn't have said you could go in if it wasn't necessary.

I had very similar pains at that stage of pregnancy. It was a really sharp pain on one side that took my breath away. I called my gp who told me to go to a&e but I said I didn't want to due to corona. She then decided to send me for a scan at my local EPU. Had the scan, baby was fine- I had a huge cyst on my ovary which was the reason I had the pain. I'm now 12+3 and everything is fine. When I rang she wasn't too alarmed mainly because I didn't have any bleeding. Personally I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving it without having a scan due to the risk of rupture if it was an ectopic pregnancy. I suggest calling your local epu and see if they could scan you. When I went there was literally 1 other person there and made me wait outside until it was my turn.

Yeah I think I’ll ring my doctor tomorrow and see if they’ll refer me to get a scan. As my local
Epu do not accept self referrals and have told me I would have to go to a&e

I would absolutely go. I've had an ectopic and didn't have pain or anything so if you have symptoms I'd say the risk is worth going in for.
I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and have had multiple scans and in my hospital they are being really cautious in terms of distancing, PPE and of course hand washing.
Hope all is ok. Let me know if you want any further information as I have been through it. X

Yeah I’m definitely going to ring my GP tomorrow and see what they advise. And hopefully get an early scan. Thank you everyone! X

You're doing the right thing OP. I had excruciating pain with my ectopic, but it didn't start out that way. It was low level, but noticeable, at first and it came and went. Even when it became very severe, it came on for a couple of hours and subsided. I honestly thought it was constipation, albeit the worst I'd ever had! The day I was admitted as an emergency, I was not in any pain at all.

I hope everything is ok for you. I know a few women who have had pain in early pregnancy which turned out to be nothing to worry about, but it's always best to get checked out.

Hi everyone,

Just a little update. I visited the EPU and had a scan. Thankfully everything’s fine and it’s not ectopic! I’ve got another scan in two weeks then my next will be my three months scan. Feel so relived just need these next 7 weeks to go by fast.
