How long do egg whites keep?

I need some egg whites for royal icing in a few days. Handily, I made a chocolate pie for DH's birthday on Tuesday that required only the yolks so I had spare whites. I popped them in airtight pot and they've been in the fridge since Tuesday (the 5th). It just occurred to me that they might not last and will go off!

Will they be ok for a couple more days? I just opened the pot and they smell fine. Should I just make the icing now and keep that in the fridge instead of the raw whites?

They will be fine - they last a long time. for future reference you can also freeze them.

Thank you Smile I know you cam freeze them, I just couldn't be arsed with doing that for the sake of a week Grin
