Is licking the yogurt lid really awful?

I was raised in a real waste not want not household. I was taught that when eating a yogurt, you lick the lid to avoid wasting any. In the days when lids were foil you had to be careful not to cut your tounge, I was taught that too! I've always thought this was normal and what everyone does.

Just today, for some reason I've wondered if it might not be the done thing in the staffroom?!

Just had yoghurt and automatically licked lid! Also lick lids of cream evaporated milk well almost anything lickable in the food line!!

Also scrap and lick mixing bowls, pie dishes etc and my dh would mop up crumbs from frying pan! Most tasty bits! Waste not want not - scavengers are disappointed with my waste bin!

ElectricTonight · 10/05/2020 13:00

I literally just licked the lid a minute ago!

CorianderLord · 10/05/2020 13:15

I just scrape it off with the spoon

HaddawayAndShite · 10/05/2020 13:17

not what adults do at all
Today I learned I’m not an adult because I lick yoghurt off something. Who knew. I’ve been allowed to vote and pay taxes for years, who do I inform about this mistake?

WhatsTheFrequencyKennneth · 10/05/2020 13:22

At home, yes. In public, use a spoon.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 10/05/2020 13:24

God no, you use a spoon, my dad would have gone mad if we'd done this as kids.
I have however been brought up by very uptight parents.
Ladies don't drink from pint glasses, dunk biscuits, have tatoos , the list is endless but I am completely indoctrinated.

timetest · 10/05/2020 13:24

Only in private if you feel you really must

PickAChew · 10/05/2020 13:25

It's the best bit. Something to do without others around, though.

Bertucci · 10/05/2020 13:26

Revolting!

HomerDancing · 10/05/2020 13:29

Urgh lid licking and scraping the pot to within an inch of its life make my toes curl!

LST · 10/05/2020 13:29

@Bertucci you have obviously never seen anything actually revolting

heartsonacake · 10/05/2020 13:30

It’s really grim and I think it’s so rude of people to do it in public especially 🤢

sonjadog · 10/05/2020 13:30

At home I would lick it, in public I would scrape it off with a spoon.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/05/2020 13:33

I have literally just done that. Why waste good yoghurt? I don't care who sees me.

Bertucci · 10/05/2020 13:33

LST

But I have! I had a colleague who regularly licked the lid of his yoghurt. It caused me (and others) intense disgust = revolting.

LST · 10/05/2020 13:36

@Bertucci in what way? Wow. You live an extremely sheltered life. I think when lockdown is lifted you need to get out a tad more

anxietrist · 10/05/2020 13:37

It's fine. The yoghurt advert even says so.

Bertucci · 10/05/2020 13:37

How silly you are. Revulsion is subjective.

Sparklingbrook · 10/05/2020 13:38

I don’t do it and seeing others do it is a bit yuk.

LST · 10/05/2020 13:39

Haha. How silly I am when you are judging people who lick a yoghurt lid as revolting 🤣🤣

Bertucci · 10/05/2020 13:40

My revolting colleague that was a lid licker, also scraped the bejesus out of the pot and made lip-smacking noises when he ate. We hated him.

ThursdayLastWeek · 10/05/2020 13:42

Wouldn’t give it a second thought.

heartsonacake · 10/05/2020 13:50

It really is a sign of poor manners and background.

Honeyroar · 10/05/2020 13:53

It’s the best bit of a yoghurt. Probably wouldn’t do it in a restaurant though!

This thread has made me go and get a yoghurt.😋

AfterSchoolWorry · 10/05/2020 14:00

Gross.

I also worked with someone who, on finishing a bag of crisps would tear it open, lay it on the table, lick her fingers and smear them around the innards of the bag and continue licking the fingers until she was satisfied she had exhausted every grain of salt and drop off grease from it.

It was revolting.
