Barclaycard fraud

Good evening, hope someone can give me some quick peace of mind! I spotted a transaction on my credit card I didn't recognise for over £100 to a website I've never been on and whose currency is not even in ££ so I reported it to the fraud team. I told my husband later on and he said it was him! I've tried contacting the fraud team and all the customer services numbers but they're closed. I will of course try in the morning but will I get in trouble for this, I know it's illegal to falsely report a transaction on your credit card and I wouldn't ever do this on purpose. I've already told my husband what I think about his vile behaviour.

I have questioned a few transactions over the years with my bank.
I usually remember what it is an have to re-contact them to let them know it's ok.
I mentioned this once at work at lunch, and quite a few people said they have done the same.
Don't stress it.
What did your husband buy that he had to lie about it to you?

Thelnebriati · 09/05/2020 22:53

You haven't done anything wrong and you wont get into trouble for reporting it, but you might have to give them an assurance that you will take care of the card and not allow any more unauthorized transactions in future.

@noriim yes technically he lied by omission but he told me as soon as I mentioned reporting the fraud. I'm more pissed off about the fact he spent the money in the first place without even thinking (it was just some things for the garden) without telling or seeing if it was ok, as we don't have much money and he doesn't work.

I reported something once it was a funny name that didn’t sound like anything I had purchased.
The woman at the bank went through it with me and told me a bit about the company and I realised it was for DD’s graduation gown hire. She was really lovely about it and said it happens all the time and she was glad it was a genuine purchase. That was Nat West btw.

This happened to FIL. we contacted the credit card company to say we had worked out what the transaction was and were fine.

No op, you won't get in trouble. If they've refunded you they will probably claim the money back.
Even if they started an investigation and you didn't call them back, they probably will call you to ask further questions and you can tell them then.

Work for a bank and this is pretty standard.
