Worried about lump on neck.

Hi, I think I've come on here to look for some reassurance whilst I wait for my appointment to come through the post for a neck scan.

Beginning of the year, I had pityriasis rosea, and was covered in this itchy rash for weeks. As the rash started to fade away, a small pea-sized lump on the side of my neck appeared and is still there now. It's moveable, and hasn't got any bigger I dont think. I have been back and forth to the doctors via phone calls etc about it. Bloods came back clear, and when it was finally examined face to face, the Dr said it felt like a benign lymph node, but doesn't know why it's there. 2 days ago, I rang the doctors again as this lump has started to ache. I can't tell if that's just because I'm overthinking it and maybe it's psychological? Either way, I've been referred after 2 months of having this lump as "suspected cancer". I have no other symptoms, but naturally I'm terrified.
Has anyone else had lumps and bumps that turned out to be nothing?

Yeah I did. I have to say that I think mine hurt as I was constantly prodding the area. I got referred v quickly. Initial appointment next day! Had a camera up my nose and down (horrible). Consultant thought it was ok but referred me for an ultrasound and biopsy for peace of mind. The US showed it was nothing, and my lymph nodes sit on top of the muscle. This might be wrong, but I can't actually remember. It's just their positioning that made them feel raised. There's 2 and are always there. I didn't need the biopsy. It's horrible waiting, but it will be over soon. Don't Google!

Sameold thanks for getting back to me. My mind is going all over the place, just need that clarification it's nothing. Glad to hear it was all okay in the end for you.

I know. I think I had a thread on mumsnet at the time. How long until your appointment? Do you think it's come up as an immune response to the rash? That could be complete rubbish, but just wondered if your body was fighting something.

I know lymph nodes can come up when you're stressed or run down?

@sameold2020

It could have been a possible response to the rash I had, as it was a viral rash all over my neck. I'm in that limbo between the doctor saying they've referred me and waiting for the appointment time to come through. Hopefully it wont be much of a wait.

I had a pea sized lump in my neck which ached occasionally. Dr said it was a lymph node and while it was there for a good few weeks it did go eventually. I think the aching was down to me prodding it tbh

@massdebate
That's reassuring, thank you.

I also have a pea sized lump on my neck, it occasionally gets larger and sore, then goes down again. The doctor thought that it was probably just a lymph node, but as I just met the criteria to be referred to ENT, I was referred to be on the safe side. That was about October time and I'm still waiting! But as the doctor was pretty sure it was nothing to worry about, I'm not really worried about it either.
