If you don't have a toaster, is it a PITA?

My toaster died last week Sad It's not been too much of an issue to make toast on the grill as we are time rich at the moment but once back to school then it could be a time consuming pita there are 4 of us.

If you don't have a toaster, do you find it ok?

I have my eye on a kitchen aid one but my bank balance says no.

My toaster broke a few weeks ago & I caved and ordered a new one yesterday.

It's so much easier to shove bread in there than it is to warm up the grill & watch it.

Plus dd2 can do the toaster herself whereas I end up doing the grill.

Yes, dds have viewed using the grill as some kind of voodoo and won't use it themselves so it's me who has to do it. It does prevent them from just helping themselves to a bagel half an hour before dinner though so that's a positive.

No, we don't have a toaster by choice. The gas grill makes much nicer toast and only takes a couple of minutes.

dangermouseisace · 09/05/2020 10:58

It’s far better to have a toaster than children/yourself setting things on fire under the grill (speaking from experience!)

I have a toaster but I never use it! I don't really eat bread but when I do I have cheese on toast and grill it.

chipsandpeas · 09/05/2020 11:02

my toaster broke and it took me about a year to get a new one, it was a pain in the arse and i only got a new one as i burnt the last of the bread and it pissed me off

madcatladyforever · 09/05/2020 11:03

I can live without one, I just don't eat toast if i don't have a toaster.

picklesonaplate · 09/05/2020 11:04

Not had one since it broke 6 years ago.

SistemaAddict · 09/05/2020 11:07

We eat a lot of toast and I make my own bread. Ds lives on cereal but dds would not be happy if life did not contain toast. Neither would I. Tea and toast is one of life's simple pleasures.

I had a dualit toaster
Then I saw the Kitchenaid one in pistachio
Fortunately, my niece was moving into her own flat so I was able to gift the dualit one to her and buy myself the Kitchenaid one
I love it

BearSoFair · 09/05/2020 11:11

We've never had one, both DH and I had always used the grill so just never seemed necessary, DC also grown/growing up with the grill so they've never known not having to keep an eye on it!

SistemaAddict · 09/05/2020 11:13

If I had a gas grill it would be much better.

Not had one for years since it broke. Don't miss it.

Frozade · 09/05/2020 11:20

Haven't had a toaster in two years now, I just use the grill, won't be getting a new toaster, grill works fine and hate having the countertops cluttered with all sorts of different appliances!

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 09/05/2020 11:24

I have the Cookworks toaster from Argos. Cheap and cheerful and does the job. It lasts me years. When it stops working, I get another of the same. Just got my third one yesterday.

SistemaAddict · 14/05/2020 13:06

Using the grill is going well if I'm the one using it. Dc still don't like it. I'll have to get one for when the world is up and running again.
