The Last Post

Can someone who knows about these things please advise me?

The call went out on our village FB page for someone to play the Last Post at the 2mins silence tomorrow morning at 11. No brass players were forthcoming, so dd volunteered to play her clarinet.

She has been practising like mad and is all ready. But it’s just occurred to me - I don’t know when exactly it should be played! Is it just before the 2mins silence, at the start of it, or at the end? We really don’t want to get it wrong!

Last Post is played immediately before two minutes silence.

Just had a look and found this online, if it's any help:

The Royal British Legion recommends this order of observance:

At 11:00am, the Last Post is played.
The exhortation is then read (see below).
The Two Minute Silence then begins.
The end of the silence is signalled by playing The Rouse.

Well done to your dd!

Thanks Ironic she’s only 9!

Hmm I’m still not sure if she should start playing bang on 11, or beforehand, then. Confused

Well, the silence starts officially at 11, so she should pipe up at 10.58,

VenusClapTrap · 07/05/2020 22:27

Right, we’ll do that! Thank you.

I think that’s lovely!! Enjoy & have fun!

Pelleas · 08/05/2020 12:31

@VenusClapTrap How did it go?

VenusClapTrap · 08/05/2020 18:15

It was great! A small (socially distancing) audience appeared - no pressure!! - but she played beautifully with only the one squeak! It went down a storm with the village. Thanks for all your help.

Well done both of you. Amazing work.
