Hello all

Long time lurker here! Compelled to seek advice as expecting a baby fairly imminently and I like the name Wilfred! Obvs just been announced that BJ's Zillionth child is also a Wilfred.... and BJ is not my favourite person... but....politics aside.. does it matter.........I'm not sure I care??? But then I think that I do care and go back to not caring again! How would you feel about this????

I'd so love some opinions, got a very cloudy hormone brain....can't think straight.....and I just like some advice from fellow mothers......

X

Wilfred isn't that unusual, just use the name. Will it be shortened to Wilf?

LondonTowers · 07/05/2020 22:14

Yes probably, partners best friend is a Wilf (a Wilf not Wilfred) and we also like Freddie but Wilf is nicer I think. Never met a Wilfred myself (yet) but I think trends vary around the country and we are in the backwaters perhaps Grin.

Having got in a tiz about another name (OH brothers son has it as his middle name and they would be annoyed if we used it so we've decided it's not an option) I've kinda got to the point where names are fair game, there's only so many to go round and you like what you like..... so?! Thanks for your advice! X

I remember the angst over naming my two all those years ago-it's very real.

You may well decide when he arrives he doesn't look like a Wilfred at all. Grin

Johnson might end up calling his son Nick in everyday life

Biscuitsneeded · 07/05/2020 22:22

Johnson will (fingers crossed) no longer be PM by Christmas and the first name of the 6th?7th?8th? child of a rubbish former PM will be of no interest to anyone. It's a nice name - use it and enjoy it.

LondonTowers · 07/05/2020 22:27

Yep Sparklingbrook, hopefully we'll have a couple of names on the list and I definitely need to meet baby first..... we really don't have long!

And yes greenlynx, he might..... I always thought people were being silly worrying about what the latest royal baby would be named..... but I have much more sympathy now 🙈

I remember a friend being stressed because the Blairs 'stole' her baby name. She still used it and it's never been an issue.

LondonTowers · 07/05/2020 22:46

Thank you, that's exactly what I needed to hear.... especially the bit about Xmas...here's hoping! Grin

I was curious when the Camerons nicked Florence - but then I had a boy!

Wilf is an excellent name. I would heartily recommend it.

june2007 · 07/05/2020 22:49

Think it was my grandads name. (Died before my time.). I like it shorten to Wilf if you like.

BatSegundo · 07/05/2020 22:49

*furious not curious!

I don't think anyone really thinks about prime ministers children's names do they? Maybe when they are just born but when he's out of office, not many people will instantly think of Boris upon hearing the name Wilfred.

ChanklyBore · 07/05/2020 23:28

I wouldn’t let Boris put me off Wilfred.

I’d let it put me off Boris. Like I let David Cameron put me off Cameron!

I know two Wilfreds and they are both under four.

I looked it up on the 2018 baby names and it was 146th, so pretty popular, don’t know if that bothers you. There were more little Wilfrids than little Christophers in 2018.

I’d suggest it will be higher on the 2019s.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/05/2020 23:32

Ah, I'd go with Freddie Grin
