Playing games while watching TV

Does anyone else do this?
Just asking as I was speaking to my friend earlier and she called it bizarre as you can't be watching TV and playing and said that they don't even have their phones out while watching TV.

The only people I've really seen do that are teenagers, who don't seem to be able to give their full attention to a film or tv programme and are constantlyon their phones. I wouldn't do it and don't have my phone on me while watching tv. Neither does dh.

Guilty. If it's a really good show I put the phone down. I'm not a teenager. I might also be reading MN.

PawPawNoodle · 06/05/2020 20:25

I do it and can pay full attention to both with ease. The only time I don't do it is if I'm watching a film with someone else. If I weren't playing games I'd be doing something, but playing games feels somewhat productive.

For me it's an anxiety thing which is difficult to explain.

I read constantly and have a kindle e-reader, a kindle fire and the app on my phone so I am never far from my book.

It drives my husband potty, he can't get how I could be paying attention to whatever is on the tv whilst I'm reading too.

I just aren't that bothered about the tv, there's very few programmes that I avidly watch so am more than happy half paying attention and reading as well. I more or less keep up with what is going on in the program.

@Mumdiva99

Haha! Your post made me laugh, thank you.

I have a 16 year old dd and 2 dc that are not teenagers so I meant playing games with them all and dh while watching TV.

It depends on the program if its something I really want to watch I'll put my phone down but if I'm not to fussed I'll be on my phone.

Disneylover4321 · 06/05/2020 20:40

@Iwantacookie
That's what we do!

I'm not talking about being on phones, I'm talking about playing games at the same time.

I kind of do but - I really don't do either well.

I have my laptop on and the tv and float from one to the other.

If the tv grips me - rare - then the laptop is ignored for a while. What happens mostly is that I miss huge chunks of tv because of MN or games.

If I'm watching anything where there are bits that I don't want to miss then I put it to record so I can pause and go back - or if on the bbc I always set to 'watch from start' so I can do the same.
