Genius or idiot?

Paddling pool in a tent? Makes the water warmer and stops leaves getting in it. We have a tiny garden and I'd sit next to it the whole time.

How big is the tent?

Haggisfish · 06/05/2020 15:41

Genius

Troels · 06/05/2020 15:48

Genius

Kpo58 · 06/05/2020 15:51

It won't make the water warmer. I remember once being in a swimming pool under a marquee and it was much colder than the sea.

Clevererthanyou · 06/05/2020 15:52

Genius, no sunburn!

midsomermurderess · 06/05/2020 15:52

Wouldn't it be unpleasantly clammy in there?

MsJaneAusten · 06/05/2020 15:53

Genius. I’m totally going to try this!

MsJaneAusten · 06/05/2020 15:54

We could totally patch it as a science lesson too? A hypotheses about what might happen, get kids to fill water with buckets (takes more time than a hose), take temperature at different stages...

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 06/05/2020 15:55

Do you mean a proper tent or just a gazebo? How will you empty it if you mean a proper tent?

ShirleyPhallus · 06/05/2020 15:57

It would be fucking freezing without the sun to warm up you or the water!

NuffSaidSam · 06/05/2020 15:59

I don't think it will be warmer without the sun.

Would stop sunburn. And leaves etc.

Maybe a gazebo or parasol would be better?

JoesExotic · 06/05/2020 16:00

A tent does not make the water warmer. Where is the logic in that!?!

DrWAnker · 06/05/2020 16:02

We have ours under a wee gazebo type thing for shade. And we fill it with warm water to start off.
The only thing I'd think about is how you'd empty/dismantle and relative sizes.

Also..you do kind of want to see the kids in a paddling pool so think about that too!

AppleJane · 06/05/2020 16:04

If you go camping and leave a bottle of water in a hot tent all day the water gets warm, doesn't it?

TimeWastingButFun · 06/05/2020 16:30

I'd be worried if a) because even though you say you'd sit by it the whole time you might not be able to supervise with 100% visibility and 2) the lack of air flow might cause it to get algae very quickly. How about a pop up gazebo over it for shade?

HollowTalk · 06/05/2020 16:40

I wouldn't - the tent will get soaking wet. The main reason would be that you wouldn't be able to see the paddling pool at all times.

WrongKindOfFace · 06/05/2020 16:43

Idiotic idea. The tent will get soaked and you’ll have to squash into it too so you can supervise.

It’s far too cold for a paddling pool anyway.

MissSquiss · 06/05/2020 16:45

Genius. It's boiling here and the bottle of water on a tent on a warm day theory is sound.

TO THE GARDEN!

TimeForCableTies · 06/05/2020 17:32

Oh, surprising. Was sure I’d get exposed as an idiot.

Tent is an old one and expendable, though I don’t think getting a wet floor will damage it.

Our garden is really really tiny; id have to sit in a really uncomfortable position to not be able to see inside the tent.

Yeah I was worried about algae and other stuff not getting killed by sunlight. Hoping to leave this water in till end of the hot weekend.

There's also a mini greenhouse thing you can buy which is all transparent but thought I'd try the tent first as we already have it.

It'll be freezing inside a tent, not warmer
