...on a long haul flight to my old home city to spend a week with my closest friends, who I haven’t seen for over 2 years.

...instead, I am standing in my kitchen, homeschooling 4DC, and eating my way through everything I can find because I’m so sad.

Not today but Friday, I should be celebrating 28 years together with my DP with dinner and a lovely day out. Instead it will be a walk and a drink in the garden. Next year we'll to better

Today I would have been joining my whole family for a trip for Mum's big birthday.

Instead I am sat on the sofa in my dressing gown and getting excited at the prospect of a chippy tea.

Today I should have been at work with colleagues who are most definitely friends. Instead I’m at home pottering about my garden in the sunshine whilst being paid for the privilege. I consider myself very, very lucky.

...looking forward to a long weekend away, travelling on Thursday night after school. taking DS to compete at a national-level sporting competition on Friday and then spending Saturday with a lovely friend from Uni whom I haven't seen in nearly two years, whose son is the same age as DS so they were desperately looking forward to seeing each other.

Instead I am working (which to be fair I would have been doing anyway) while trying to get DS to finish the world's most boring English assignment and keeping an eye out for a parcel that is the only thing I have to look forward to this week, even though I know full well that it's a new toilet seat.

Today DS should be going to nursery (he only goes 1 day a week). He would be making me something for mother’s day this coming Sunday.

Instead I’ve just suffered through 5 episodes of Bing Bunny (surely that deserves some sort of award?). It’s pouring so we are staying in all day. And I’m not holding my breath for any nice surprises on Sunday

I should have had the grandsons coming to stay on Friday - now we don't know when they will be able to come.

Good things have been going out walking more and observing and enjoying wildlife.

Not today but this Sunday is mothers day here, my first. I'm sure DH would like to have planned a day out somewhere and stopped off for some nice food. He will still make it a nice day for me, just a bit different to what we imagined.

On Thursday I should have been getting ready for a big girls night out - my first since the birth of DC2. I've got a freezer full of expressed milk ready so I can really let my hair down . I'll use it one day hopefully!

On my way to Cyprus for my 2 year anniversary instead working from home looking like a hag .

Should have been staying with my friend in Crete for a week or two. Instead of which I'm gardening and mentally redecorating my house.

I should've been saying goodbye to my foster child this morning as they should've been moving to their adopters if all the meetings had gone well.

On Sunday I should be celebrating with my first born who will turn 30 on that day, we would also have been celebrating her success in qualifying as a teacher.

Instead today we had a walk and posted cards to DD.

Today I should have been moved, to another house and been looking at or even bought another business in another country.

Instead I am sat watching Escape to the Chateau and the whole family are all living on UC

Today is my 40th birthday. Should have been enjoying the day with DH whilst the kids were at school, then some family time in the evening. There's always next year!

On Saturday I should have been going to my daughter’s wedding.
They’ve rearranged for mid December. Things should be okay by then!

On Saturday we should all be at my nephews wedding. Dd was meant to be a flower girl. She keeps asking when she can put her dress on.

I should be at the hospital with my dad, holding his hand while he undergoes his procedure that he's been waiting for, for over a year.
Instead, I'm at home, working, waiting for a big team Zoom call later.
And my dad is at the hospital alone.

OP - can you set up a video call with your friends? No idea what time zone but something might lift your spirits a bit?

Tomorrow I should have been flying to Australia for a 2 week holiday with the only family members that I feel normal and loved with, where I feel that I have a home. Instead I'm stuck with work (nanny) trying to help with homeschool to a child that hates school and any writing and to try and keep up with the cleaning and everything else i would do when he would normally be at school

I should have been starting to pack and shop for a cottage holiday in N Yorks with my husband, and my sister and BIL who live in USA. They are not in the UK ☹️

Early April I should have been getting married. Won't be for at least two or three years now (having a baby).

Today I should be getting ready to go on holiday next week on our final break as a couple pre-baby.
