Will I be going to London in July?

Do you think? Got a few days booked, just for a break, booked before all this. It's not a problem to cancel, but I just wondered if there would be any point going? Will there be anything to do? Will the pubs be open by then? I actually doubt it...

I think there's a good chance you'll be ok.

BullshitVivienne · 05/05/2020 20:06

Something I had booked in August in London has been postponed. So I'm not sure.

Ghostlyglow · 05/05/2020 20:18

Trains are only for sale until June 12 so I don't have to decide yet. I don't want to give up hope Smile

I think social distancing will very much still be in place and I doubt pubs will be open.

Humina · 05/05/2020 20:23

No, don't think so. Everything will still be closed.

Humina · 05/05/2020 20:24

Transport, for a start, looks impossible to operate safely.

Ghostlyglow · 05/05/2020 20:31

I'm kidding myself, aren't I Sad

I think you’ll be able to travel there but not sure what will be open. What did you have planned?

ChicChicChicChiclana · 05/05/2020 20:43

I live in London. I fully expect all restaurants, cafes, pubs and venues to still be closed in July.

But if you are booked into a hotel or Air B&B fairly close to the centre where you don't have to get on public transport to get around ... then I would say this is a great time to come! The great appeal of London is the fantastic buildings and sights, the river, the history. If you can get around to see them without a million tourists and all the usual residents going about their work in your way, then it should be great! The best way to see London is on foot or hired bicycle. Cycles will be safer with so little traffic on the roads.

Ratatatata · 05/05/2020 20:46

What do people think about parties in private houses? Have/had a 40th I was really looking forward to in August. Assuming it won’t go ahead but still holding out a small hope

Ghostlyglow · 05/05/2020 21:18

Nah! @ChicChicChicChiclana I want to go to the pub🤣 and I think you're right, I most likely won't be able to 😭. You're also right about the best way to see London, but I want a drink and/or a meal after my walk Wink

If I’m not going to Cornwall then you shouldn’t go to London.

Ghostlyglow · 05/05/2020 21:22

@FreeButtonBee when were you going?

browzingss · 05/05/2020 21:24

I think you’ll be able to go, I mean you could get a train to London tomorrow if you wanted to. It’s whether your hotel or whatever else you booked are operating as normal.

You’d probably be able to get some decent food delivery options but not sure whether you’d be able to go to a restaurant. Possibly an alcohol delivery or you can visit the shops to buy what you want.

I’d just wait closer to the time.

Daffodil101 · 05/05/2020 21:24

Why is that, Freebutton?

homemadecommunistrussia · 05/05/2020 21:24

How about September? < puppy eyes>

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 05/05/2020 21:25

My family are still convinced we'll be in Paris in the summer. I hope they're wrong because I love being right I haven't ordered any passports.

browzingss · 05/05/2020 21:25

^I suppose there’s an argument that Londoners shouldn’t bring their germs to Cornwall, so likewise non-Londoners shouldn’t bring their germs to London

Kingjarvis · 05/05/2020 21:28

I’m going to Norfolk in August

rosie1959 · 05/05/2020 21:28

Had a few holidays planned for the first half of this just waiting to hear about cancelling the third and last one booked for July
Quite honestly have written this year off as nothing is going to be moving that quick

AragonsGirl · 05/05/2020 21:38

I’m meant to be going to London in July with my husband to celebrate our 40ths. Part of the trip includes the Harry Potter studio tour. We’re planning on cancelling 😭

mindutopia · 05/05/2020 22:03

I work in London (long commute in from the countryside). July is the earliest I would plan to consider returning to the office. If it's just for a holiday, I would probably re-schedule. I wouldn't plan for any UK travel at that time, even if I might still go in to work.

FredaFox · 05/05/2020 22:06

Pubs won’t be open for months yet

LovelyO · 05/05/2020 22:11

Kinda depends where you're travelling from as well like distance from london, modes of transport you'd need, etc.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 05/05/2020 22:19

If the weather’s nice then some places are doing takeaway pints and cocktails. I wouldn’t give up all hope, but it depends on how you wanted to spend your time.
