I know someone who does very well with it. Get in with local schools seems to be a good earner.

I joined 3 weeks ago! You definitely need the right social connections and support when you start out. You need to place 6 large orders to unlock working with schools and I've only done 1 so far! As I'm still trying to conceive and am not yet a mum, and also relatively new to the neighbourhood, I don't have friends in baby and toddler groups or nurseries; so I'm personally finding it hard!

On the other hand, there are some organisers that start out easily as they have a big family, strong support network and supportive followers. So, it really depends!

These days everything is online and if you're not as confident using social media it can be tricky to get yourself out there. But if that's what you're used to, you can get creative to make yourself stand out.

As I suffer from social anxiety I am finding it quite a challenge; can't help but compare myself to others who have just started and are doing so well. I'm just not the aggressive sales type, never have been! Only joined for my love of books and wanting to share that with families, also to push myself out of my comfort zone. Perhaps bit off more than I can chew but only time will tell! Thank you for your honesty though, you bring up a good point about school books!

We had a virtual book fair which went brilliantly. £600 worth bought meant £250 (IIRC) worth of free books for the school.

(We have around 250 children in the school so only the equivalent of a couple of quid each.)

So many people are reps around here, I dont see how anyone makes any money out of it.

I bought a book from someone doing it once and it took 2 weeks to come. I could have ordered it from Amazon and it would have been cheaper and quicker!

So far I have spent more money then made money! Have to pay for certain things like leaflets, colouring sheets and delivery and you need to buy a card reader if you want to do stalls; need a printer for all the event promotion stuff otherwise you have to order that in too so can get costly, then you still might not make that money back so it's a risk you take. I'm curious to hear how to OP got on, though?

It is an MLM. 99% of people who join mlms lose money.
People would rather buy off Amazon which is cheaper and quicker.
Get out before you lose even more money.

Don't do it! The market is completely saturated and exactly the same books can be bought cheaper from Amazon, WHSmiths, Tesco etc. In my area there are also ex-Usborne sellers trying to offload their stock cheaply, which is just extra competition for you.

The only way to make any money in MLM (and this is just as much MLM as Forever Living, Arbonne etc) is by recruiting hundreds of sellers underneath you,which is both stressful and unethical.

Don't do it if you want to make any money (nor Avon) because they're MLM and you have to "pay to play" and your outlays will invariably be more than you take in commission from sales. Sorry.

Best start a new thread asking other mnetters for ways of making money from home that do not include MLM. You'll get some great ideas that won't cost you money but will make you money. Good luck.

Yes, you need to exploit family, friends, neighbours, colleagues goodwill and friendship. That is precisely how MLM works (or rather, doesn't).

Incidentally, regarding Avon, I can buy direct from the website and receive my order quickly, with free postage. I did this on Thursday when I ordered some perfume. It arrived in post Saturday. No Avon lady in the world can do this for me.

@goldenkelpie on Avon site they seem to assign you a random person (in the top right corner). You can put in your postcode and choose some one near by. I did this in the hope they actually got something from it.

That's good to know. Thanks . Makes me think though, why go through the long process of waiting for a book to be delivered, waiting while it is picked up (a week or more later) then waiting a couple of weeks for the delivery. Doesn't make sense, does it?

The alternative, buying online with delivery a couple of days later seems better. If I can put in my postcode then chances are my Avon lady may benefit from the commission.

However Avon have stopped having 'areas' their Avon ladies cover in favour of a free for all "recruit anyone and everyone" policy which means no-one makes money direct selling (unless to all their family/friends/neighbours).
