Anti anxiety meds advice?

Has anyone had medicine for anxiety specifically rather than anti depressants?

I'm feeling awful, constant aaargh! Feeling and can't sleep. But I'm worried about the side effects of ADs and putting on weight too. I'm feeling fat anyway with missing all my usual exercise. But I've lost motivation to do anything. I'm a single parent and it's awfully hard.

I have a lovely partner who lives near but not supposed to see him which is awful too. Behind anyone dismisses this as me moaning about me not seeing my BF that's not the case. I'm trying hard but this has gone on too long.

I've been prescribed propanolol and a few diazepam before but not really helping.

truth be told I'm pretty much the same for any prescription drugs.. 😳 but I'm needing to feel better.

You feel a failure with any prescription drugs?

Imagine how I felt when I hadn't taken eg antibiotics, paracetamol etc for about 20 years - and was shot into a world of chemo, steroids, any and every analgesic (even, ffs, taking analgesics days BEFORE chemo to get my body prepared!!). I found it really hard. But I absolutely learned that prescription drugs have their place at the right time.

It's not that I judge other people, not at all. It's part of my weird upbringing. I feel I should be strong and fit and the me who looks after everyone. All part of the madness

Can you do a big sigh?

I'm not being facetious. Sometimes with severe anxiety it's as though my diaphragm locks. But I still have a go, it's better than nothing xx

Sorry to jump in and OP, I really hope you get what you need, but just wanted to say thanks to Springydaff for the post explaining breathing and adrenal triggers. Very helpful to understand more about the relationship and will motivate me more to work on my breathing as I need to.

Breathing techniques and meditation and yoga serve me well normally. I'm a bit of a hippie hen and practise all that. Just not working now 🤷‍♀️

Fluoxetine here, works well for me to reduce racing thoughts, obsessiveness and panic and helps keep things in perspective.

It has dramatically reduced my libido though and I can no longer orgasm.

A quick word to anyone reading this, not just the OP - NEVER take St John's Wort with prescription ADs. It's a weak monoamine oxidase inhibitor, which means it increases the amount of serotonin in the brain. So too do most ADs, and the almost certain result is serotonin syndrome.

Haggisfish · 05/05/2020 23:05

Yes that is very true-I would definitely check with Gp before taking st kings wort to ensure it’s compatible with any other meds you are taking.
