Well, my attempt to make Old School Sponge cake had failed miserably...
Mainly due to my being a greedy fat bastard and trying to put ALL my mix into the one tray despite it clearly being too shallow. It was literally pouring out of my oven.
And I've used all my eggs so not only do I have to clean my oven (overdue as you can see), but I have no access to more cake sob

I don't envy you having to clean that up!

Oh well, I mean the edges still look good...

I cleaned up the mess and poured out some (lots) of the excess mix. Cooked what was left and actually, it was pretty good. a happy ending

Oh my word OP! That is a pretty serious fail.

I was expecting a charming but slightly wonkily decorated hedgehog/teddy bear/dinosaur cake or similar.

In my book it's only really a fail if you can't eat it. Sounds like you recovered the situation spectacularly well.
