Expiring EU driving licence - help!

Does anyone know what's happening with driving licences?

My husband's EU licence is expiring in the next couple of weeks. It can't be renewed online as not a UK licence. It can't be changed to a British licence as they aren't sending out or accepting paper forms. The DVLA website says they are only dealing with email and telephone queries from HGV drivers and keyworkers, so won't communicate with anyone else. The Spanish consulate don't answer the phone...

Does he really need to defy government advice and fly to Spain to attempt to sort this? No idea if such services are even operating in Spain at the moment.

I'd assume they should just be waiving those driving on expired licences at the current time, but I can't find anything to support that. Help please! Sad

A hopeful bump...

I'm in Spain and I understand all Spanish licenses have an automatic 6 months extension. Is that what you mean by a eu license?

He has a Spanish licence but is using it in the UK. The DVLA have issued no useful advice about what to do if your licence expires...

His parents (in Spain) mentioned the 6 month extension but he couldn't find much about it online.

Are they going to accept that if pulled over in the UK? I hope so... Confused

Has he tried looking it up on Spain’s equivalent of the DVLA website? There is info on DVLA site about renewing your UK licence whilst abroad, so I would assume the same sort of information would be available on Spain’s own licensing authority website for Spanish Nationals that are abroad.
