Hello :)

We have 2 of these beasties flying around a vent in our back garden, we had a nest nearby of wasps a few years ago and now we have a very inquisitive toddler so I'm not keen on that! They are all back with a orange bit on top, same shape as wasp. Doesn't buzz or make any sound and hovers like a wasp. Never seen one this colour through. We are in north east Scotland if that makes any difference? Photos aren't great so apologies will try get better ones if needed!

Thanks x

Is it a fuzzy / fluffy looking orange bit?

MashedPotatoBrainz · 03/05/2020 20:02

Is it a mason bee? I was told that if they look like they've got a little fur body warmer on then they're a type of bee. If not then they're from the wasp family.

ginandnappies · 03/05/2020 20:03

This one is about 2 and half cm. yeah it is slightly furry looking! It was just they way it flew like a wasp and weird no sound was made!

Honey bees are wasp shape but have the fuzzy bit. There are black honey bees.

Looking at photos of mason bees and doesn't look similar! This one is more pointy looking and only had a tiny bit of fuzzy orange.

Set it free, it's a bee.

ginandnappies · 03/05/2020 20:06

Ahh just seen that link, I will go set it free I don't want to hurt a wee bee. Thanks all x

NE of Scotland here, you’ve got me worried now.

ginandnappies · 03/05/2020 20:33

Well I set it free, I'm sure it's nothing scary judging by photos but was strange! Will have to keep an eye out x
