Do you watch TV in the daytime?

Just occurred to me today that we don't turn on the TV until the evening. It's usually because there's something specific that we want to watch. I've never been tempted to turn it on in the daytime and neither, it seems, is anyone else in the house.

DC do go on phones or iPads (not gamers, it seems), for probably around an hour day, and DH and i both like to browse online, so it's not a daytime screen aversion.

Is this unusual? Do you watch TV in the daytime?

it does go on in the afternoon on Christmas Day. Not to watch the Queen though!

At weekends yes during the week no unless there is something important like Boris’s speech on Monday I wanted to hear what he had to say. Otherwise I don’t want to fall into the trap of watching TV while working and try and keep that separate for post work downtime.

LolaSmiles · 03/05/2020 19:15

Yes, but then I'm spending a lot of time feeding a baby at the moment so tend to record things on an evening during their fussy hours to watch during the day.

BlueGheko · 03/05/2020 19:16

No, well very rarely, occasionally watch a bit of netflix on a rainy Sunday afternoon or something but don't watch a lot of TV generally, even in lockdown. Don't have live TV just steaming services. No idea if that's unusual or not.

ofwarren · 03/05/2020 19:16

No we don't.
Kids might have it on to watch the Disney plus or YouTube but nobody watches actual TV.

Standrewsschool · 03/05/2020 19:17

Usually when ironing or poorly. Discovered that in the afternoon there always seem to be low budget film with a psychological twist. Ie. New ‘nice’ boyfriend is a murderer, etc

Often I’ll watch stuff i’ve recorded though.

ExclamationPerfume · 03/05/2020 19:18

Ours is on constantly. We love telly.

Northernsoullover · 03/05/2020 19:19

No. For some reason it gives me the rage if its on past 9am when ive finished with the news. I usually put it on at 7pm.

CurtainWitcher · 03/05/2020 19:19

We're not unusual by this scientific poll then!

By watching TV, I mean watching any channels. Disney+ is watching TV, isn't it?

We're retired and at home a lot. I'm a radio or silence person but dh likes the tv on. News, current affairs as long as hes awake it's on! I screen it out a lot and we do our own thing for parts of the day. A lot of daytime tv is poor or repeated.

Selfsettling3 · 03/05/2020 19:21

I watch a bit of ceebies during the with DD1 or we might watch a nature documentary but not adult Tv. I might watch a cooking programme on a weekend morning.

nerdgirl47 · 03/05/2020 19:23

Now I'm working from home I constantly have the tv on in the background. It helps me keep track of time - oh look This Morning has finished, must be lunch time! That sort of thing

Ragwort · 03/05/2020 19:54

No but I almost wish I could, I have a bit of a puritanical attitude to daytime TV ... I am currently furloughed, no DC at home to home school (DS is a Uni student doing his own thing), I wish I could just switch the tv on and enjoy a film or something .... I do very occasionally if it is raining but otherwise I always think I should be ‘doing something constructive’ Hmm.

Bagelsandbrie · 03/05/2020 19:57

We have it on all day but we don’t actually sit and watch it, we just like it on in the background and will dip in and out of whatever’s on. We don’t have it loud enough to be overpowering. It’s usually on cbbc or some cookery thing or whatever. Sometimes at the moment we might all watch a film in the afternoon. We all sit together in the living room but usually we’re either chatting together or on our own phones / iPads / youngest playing games etc. (Dc aged 16 and 7).

huckleberrychin · 03/05/2020 20:02

Never during the day because my kids would do nothing else if i left it on. Even stuff they couldn't possibly be into (they're' 4 and 5). I'd love to watch homes under the hammer and The Chase and any other crap that's on but i just can't until they're older

chomalungma · 03/05/2020 20:03

Yes

But there is a lot of the same stuff on every single day.

Chty · 03/05/2020 20:04

I have Netflix/Amazon prime on all day pretty much everyday in the background while I'm working.

Booksandwine80 · 03/05/2020 20:05

It goes on in the morning for GMB just to check what’s going on in the world. If I’m particularly tired will put stuff on for DD. If I’m feeling awake/alert will turn it off until after lunch

PureedSocksAndPants · 03/05/2020 20:05

I do like Father Brown Mysteries if I’m about and having lunch. Not every day though.

AvoidingRealHumans · 03/05/2020 20:06

Nope. Our tv doesn't go on until 7pm When I watch emmerdale Blush.
We have the radio on all day though for some background noise now we're at home during the day.

UserDeleted · 03/05/2020 20:06

Yes. I watch loads of tv (Netflix, Amazon Video, and Disney+) as I cross stitch a lot and have tv on at the same time. The two things are now so linked I can’t watch TV unless I'm stitching!

Noone else in the house watches tv in the daytime. The DC watch almost no tv at all! Its all gaming here.

CurlyEndive · 03/05/2020 20:07

No. Somehow it would feel like a waste of time even though I'm happy to mess around on MN!

Bringonspring · 03/05/2020 20:08

We let the children watch about an hour at lunch time just to have some quiet time (for everyone). Apart from that, no. I do like the radio on though

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/05/2020 20:10

Sometimes I have the TV on from getting up untill going to bed, other times I dont have it on at all and everything in between.

vanillandhoney · 03/05/2020 20:10

Yes, but mostly as background noise. I also leave it on when I go out for the dog!

I don't see it as any different to sitting on your phone or laptop and messing about online.
