Even being sick after a c section ?

OP posts:
Wifeofbikerviking · 03/05/2020 07:42

Yes..I was sick lots after a long labour and emergency csection. Doctor advised me it was normal.

Whilst I was trying to make sense of his paperwork I had to sign and establish breastfeeding whilst trying to not throw up on my baby or the doctor 🙃

PaulTheWineGuyPaul · 03/05/2020 07:44

Yes, it’s very normal. I was sick afterwards, so was my mum.

bookish83 · 03/05/2020 07:44

I was. Also had a dodgy tum for days afterwards x

I was sick so much during labour I had to have anti sickness injections! I think it was the gas and air that did it for me but 🤷‍♀️

TheSheepofWallSt · 03/05/2020 07:48

If anyone comes here looking re: vomiting and vaginal birth- I was very sick during late transition and for about an hour of pushing.
Absolutely didn’t give a shit- in fact I remember laughing about it with the midwife. It stopped when my waters broke just before he was born.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/05/2020 07:48

I was sick after both c sections (EMCS and ELCS). I was more sick after the second and had to have two injections of antiemetic to stop me!

moanyhole · 03/05/2020 07:51

Yes for each of my three labors. Puked for a couple of hours before each baby was born and for about 4 hours afterwards. After having my last my obstetrician came to check on me and found me head over the toilet, he shook his head and said "its a mans world".

Koddii · 03/05/2020 07:52

I was very sick during but ok after.

WreckTangled · 03/05/2020 07:52

I was sick in labour. I had been induced and they didn't think I was as far along as I was until I started vomiting. I wet myself at the same time. So glamorous Grin then finally moved me to labour ward after that.

Altuve · 03/05/2020 07:54

Labour 1 - violently sick from when contractions started to birth - approx 36hours. Ended up on a drip as severely dehydrated. Very close to emcs as I was so exhausted. As soon as baby and placenta were out the sickness stopped instantly. I ate, drank and slept through the night (baby born at 10pm) as was suddenly starving.

Labour 2 - very nauseous during labour but never actually sick. Contractions only lasted 3-4hrs start to finish however and the nausea was only for the last hour and a half. Went into shock after birth due to speed of labour/delivery and continued to feel nauseous. Didn’t eat or drink until about 4/5 hours post birth.

Labour 3 - Also very quick labour with contractions only lasting 3-4 hours again, and I went from 3cm-10cm in 45min. Violently sick again but actually had an emcs as it was a breech twin birth. (Emergency as no-one expected labour to progress so quickly, despite my history, so they hadn’t rushed me to theatre when I arrived at the hospital) Felt sick for days afterwards and barely ate. Still intermittently vomiting up to 3 days later.

BasilDiffuser · 03/05/2020 07:54

I was sick a lot during. I think it was the pain and the pushing.

ShoeJunkie · 03/05/2020 07:57

Yep, vommed during transition both times.

Falafellygood · 03/05/2020 08:07

Yes, I was sick a lot after initially just having my first baby (honestly think it was the shock of a quick birth). I was also sick during my second labour which I think was because of the drugs and gas and air.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 03/05/2020 08:17

Yes was sick multiple times during first labour and was also shaking violently. I filled loads of those sick bowls up, but at least my OH was useful Grin I think it was the induction as baby was in disress too, so have alway though it was that, although I did have a lot of G&A (nothing else as it was too late) as it was a fast and intense birth.

I was expecting the same for second and requested anti-emetic in birth plan, but didn't need it. I had a small hint of being nauseous in transition, which went after a few minutes. I only really had G and A for the last 30 minutes though and did have any other drugs, so it might have something to do with that.

I heard that G&A and pethidine can make you nauseous, but I think in my case it was probably the induction drugs that caused it.

xQueenMabx · 03/05/2020 08:20

Yup. I ended up needing an antiemetic injection with both mine!

Crunchymum · 03/05/2020 08:21

Are you asking as you are being sick after delivery or are you worried about the sickness @Lardlizard ?

I'm an emetophobe, so can understand the fear of sickness is labour (I was sick just the once in my first labour. Nothing in next two!!)

Isadora2007 · 03/05/2020 08:26

I’m sure it is normal as I’ve heard of so many women for whom this has happened. I was only sick once after delivery of my first son- I think it was after the injection for the placenta to come down? Not sure. Other than that I wasn’t sick during or after the other three labour/births. Just in case anyone reading thinks it’s a definite.

Bienentrinkwasser · 03/05/2020 08:32

I was sick a few times in labour. Then when I decided to eat a Dominoes pizza exactly 6 hours post-cesarean (not recommended but in my defence I was starving!).

In my experience it’s very common (midwife).

adagio · 03/05/2020 08:36

I was sick in early labour for both of mine - I say early labour, I actually mean ‘the point at which I thought oh crap I should be in hospital now’. Had to communicate to DH ‘it’s time to leave’ by grunting and groaning with my head down the loo. Part of the clear out perhaps? Also vommed in corridor whilst waiting to be let in to the delivery mlu with the second one. I was very apologetic when they opened the door! (And then another contraction came so they pointed me to the nearest free delivery room so I could vomit in the loo!). Stopped vomming once I was empty so to speak, and felt fine from then on. No drugs though - gas and air was hideous, didn’t help the pain, made my mouth dry and made me feel sick again. Managed 2 sucks on it then said never again.

So glamorous 🥰

DaveMinion · 03/05/2020 08:46

Yes it can be during c section as a spinal can lower your blood pressure. They give you a medication to counteract this (via drip) which is constantly adjusted in response to your blood pressure but you can still feel sick and vomit unfortunately. Anti sickness is given too.

I work in anaesthetics (not an anaesthetist but assist them).

BrooHaHa · 03/05/2020 08:56

It's normal, but not a foregone conclusion. I wasn't sick at all during mine. Vaginal birth though.

SpillTheTeaa · 03/05/2020 08:57

I was sick during labour but okay after

Strugglingtodomybest · 03/05/2020 09:01

I was sick during labour the first time, I got too excited about the gas and air and over did it.

NatashaRomanov · 03/05/2020 09:04

It is pretty common, but doesn't st happen to everyone. I had two inductions, that went slightly differently, but I never even felt nauseous during any of it.

CountryCasual · 03/05/2020 09:08

It is very normal

I wasn’t sick at all but that’s probably because I had anti sickness injections/IV at every opportunity. I’d suffered with hyperemesis until 30 weeks so was quick to ask for them. Also in VBAC gas and air is a real sod for making you sick. I did wretch whilst using it to get through an examination but managed not to be actually sick
