@angelcakebananabrain you're most welcome

@Furble welcome back sorry you've had a shit week

@Weedsnseeds1 I've been listening most of the day, very moving and I've enjoyed the music too (I like a bit of jazz and swing anyway) but I'm back to usual radio now as was getting a little repetitive

Afternoon tea looks yummy

@Ninkanink Yes I went a bit mad didn't I? and only AFTER baking discovered...nowhere to store the cakes! So they're now still in the tins in the cool oven! So until they're eaten I'm going to have to move them in and out the oven if I'm using it which is a pita!

Yet I'm seriously considering making some cheese scones - to use up the milk but not use any more eggs for now as down to last 6 and they've a long date on them so I'm wanting to save them (for more cakes!)

Op & weeds don't worry about the shelf life thing it was just an idea I think we're all muddling along quite well now.

Sorry you're not doing well @Ninkanink I hope nothing serious, having a trying day myself as limo bad and neck sore probably overdoing it.

Graphista · 08/05/2020 18:37

Ooft clear bold fail! Apologies!

angelcakebananabrain · 08/05/2020 21:05

So because I cooked my pasta in the soup yesterday, the pasta absorbed most of the water once I’d stored the leftover, which I knew would happen, so my plan today was to mix in some cream cheese, bake until piping hot, then melt on some cheese. Worked perfectly but I am absolutely going to regret eating this much cheese...

Also made fudge blondies but I didn’t have condensed milk which I normally use so not sure what they are like, will try one in a bit.

Well, afternoon tea has just finished!
We actually had a great time, Everyone had little tables set out in their front garden, or in the road.
We drank home brew wine, cider and mead.
Passers by stopped and joined in for a bit, the odd car coming through helped themselves to a cake through the window. We managed the social distancing, everyone enjoyed themselves.
Every so often, someone new arrived with a chair and a plate.
We had the 40s radio station playing, some people had bunting or flags.
I've had a lovely day Grin

Ninkanink · 08/05/2020 21:55

@weeds i read this thread and thought of you:

@graphista thanks. It’s a bit of a dip, that’s all; probably hormonal in nature since it seems to happen with predictable regularity, but it still knocks me for a loop every time, and the knowledge that my body’s just doing its thing doesn’t really help my mind, nor make it feel any less real.

Ah well, I’m relaxing with a good book and trying to ride the wave. And I got lots of cleaning done today when I was trying to keep busy.

Have a good evening everyone. 🌻

Oh and sorry that you’re in pain. I guess a day of rest and relaxation tomorrow won’t hurt either of us...

Grin No, not our road!
Weedsnseeds1 · 08/05/2020 22:05

I can't believe we spent the best part of 7 hours hanging out in the road!

@angelcakebananabrain interesting use of soup/pasta leftovers wouldn't have occurred to many but I bet it's delicious

Blondes/brownies are not my thing at all but hope you enjoy

@Weedsnseeds1 love that you've had a good day and glad my radio recommendation went down well I found the dan snow history bits interesting. Only you could have an afternoon tea in 2020 that involves home made mead! love it! (What does it taste like? I'm fascinated)

@Ninkanink I understand totally. I have endo and pms and dd suffers too - right moody mare she can be! Others get teary or angry she gets frustrated or restless and denies its hormonal...then af shows up 2-3 days later!

I think I do need a rest tomorrow or I won't be able to move by Sunday! Leg is twitching now - a definite sign I've been overdoing it! Pita!

I can't believe we spent the best part of 7 hours hanging out in the road! I was an army brat throughout 70's and 80's - any excuse for a street party! Silver jubilee, Charles & di getting married, lads home from deployment, Cos it's a sunny Sunday! Many many fond memories of cheese & pineapple hedgehogs, sugar loaded squash, racing the other kids on bikes and roller skates (on one occasion bro attempted both at once, it was not a success Grin)

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/05/2020 23:06

That looks lovely, Collision
I've just seen another thread, where the street parties roads are being slated.
We managed social distancing, even the children. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the mental boost of seeing new faces and chatting to different people was amazing.
It's a small village, nobody had visitors and we all know we haven't been anywhere for six weeks.

Ninkanink · 08/05/2020 23:13

Oh that picnic looks fantastic!

Graphista mead is surprisingly refreshing, not as sweet as you think it will be, but still tastes like honey.
I didn't make it, that was someone else's contribution.
Our road is a quiet, single track road, with a wider bit opposite my house.
We managed it by everyone putting a table in the front garden (my side) or in the road (other side) as those houses are straight onto the road. We don't have pavements.
Once tables were out, a tray of food and assorted drinks were layed out, with wiping down as necessary, then everyone came back out with their chairs.
We had some extra chairs dotted around and some spare tables for anyone who wanted to join in.

Graphista · 08/05/2020 23:36

That sounds fabulous

angelcakebananabrain · 09/05/2020 00:54

@Weedsnseeds1 that sounds lovely! Wouldn’t work on our clos but we’ve been given the go ahead by our government to have socially distanced parties with everyone in their own driveways so think that’ll be happen but we are a bit concerned about what happens when people get drunk - it’s obviously not really the point of Liberation Day but unfortunately alcohol is a HUGE part of the day for a lot of people...

Weedsnseeds1 · 09/05/2020 08:59

Angelcake most of us were drinking, but nobody got silly, it was all very civilised.
I think it worked as we are such a little backwater here, there's no through traffic, just people who live here, the wide bit of the road meant walkers could go down the middle with plenty of space.

PurpleDaisies · 09/05/2020 09:03

We had a street party here too and it was so nice to chat across the driveways. It started at 2pm and having two G and Ts in the sunshine was enough to make me need an afternoon nap!
As ever, some properly lovely looking food on this thread. Hoping everyone feeling a bit under a cloud has better days today. Flowers

I get emails from Anna Jones and yesterday’s one had a chilli recipe that I fancied and happened to have all the stuff in for. It was very easy and while the beans themselves were nothing particularly special, the very poncily named “herb smash” (not shown) that went on top made the whole thing really tasty. Are it in tortilla wraps. If you’ve got a blender/food processor it only involves chopping a leek and some garlic. Everything else is just opening tins.

No street party here :( we are in a very quiet small cul de sac and we are the only English family which is probably why. I did sit at the end of the driveway for a bit and we had bunting up just in case anyone else fancied sitting out but nope.

@cricketmum84 where are you?

Glad all enjoyed street parties and @angelcakebananabrain hope you do too without people being silly

I'm currently melting as temp here shot up to 17°c! I know that's not warm to others but I'm in Scotland and that's warm to us!

cricketmum84 · 09/05/2020 15:20

@Graphista we are in West Yorkshire! 6 houses on our little street and off the top of my head 1 is Bosnian, 2 Lithuanian, 2 Polish and then us.

Not complaining at all as they are all extremely lovely (especially next door who always knows our grass when he does his own and brings us strawberries from his garden) but nobody was celebrating VE except for us.

SegregateMumBev · 09/05/2020 15:48

Found a recipe to use up some the mountain of milled flaxseed! These are little crackers, or dipping devices. I shall see how well they keep.

Using up the last of the Easter lamb tonight in a buryani. Asda delivery has just arrived but the baby's asleep on me so DH has to put it all away Grin
