Growing tall

Hi, my dd just turned 9 and she's exactly 5' tall, grew 5" in one year. She's the same size as her 13 yo brother, he was only 4'5 at her age. I can't believe how tall she's getting! Seems like no stopping her, and she doesn't want to because she wants to be taller than her brother :-) How's it with your kids, are they also growing so fast or are some slower like my ds? kind regards.

I was 5’9” by the time I was 12 (yes I’m tall thanks for noticing 🙄). I never grew after that and everyone caught up. I was always tall at primary school.

nicknamehelp · 02/05/2020 17:58

my dd was grew taller quicker than her big bro and was taller than him he hit 15 and grew over night and is now taller

MysteryFrog · 02/05/2020 18:02

I was 5’8” at 11/12ish but stopped growing then too

I’m 6ft so expecting tall kids. Atm, dd(10) is 4ft11, ds (12) is 5ft. Dd is taller than some of her friends, but not the tallest by a long shot. Ds is quite small, but hasn’t had a growth spurt for a while, I’m sure one will come very soon!

harstobmum · 02/05/2020 18:16

well that is probably what will happen with dd, stopping at about 12!

I got to 5' at age 9' and stopped growing once I hit 5'11" at 12-13 ish.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/05/2020 18:40

Age 8, that should be. God knows what my fingers were doing! 😂

harstobmum · 03/05/2020 09:44

You were definitely tall at age 8 (and still areSmile)

I was also 5’10” at 12 and then stopped. Please don’t make the mistake my DM made of buying school clothing for a 6’ daughter that never then fit me Wink

DelurkingAJ · 03/05/2020 09:51

But my now 6’6” DBIL was the shortest in his year at 12. And then grew so fast at about 14 that he’s got stretch marks across his back.

middleager · 03/05/2020 09:53

I'm 5ft 2, my son aged (just) 14 is an inch taller. His twin is 5ft 6.

Society is obsessed with being tall - it's like how quickly can you walk/talk, how tall can you grow!

DrinkVeneer · 03/05/2020 10:06

@DelurkingAJ exactly the same thing happened to my previously dinky ds2 at exactly the same age! Bless him, I took him to the doctor when the stretch marks appeared because I didn't know previously that you could get them from getting tall quickly. The doctor said it was a known phenomenon and quite common but I've never heard of anyone else I know having it. The growth spurt was quite freaky when it happened; there were days when I swear he visibly grew overnight.

EatingIsMyHobby · 03/05/2020 16:44

5ft at 9 really isn't that tall for a girl.

I remember a regular annoying poster on here years ago went on and on and on about how her year 6 daughter was 'already 5ft 3'. It's not a competition!

DrinkVeneer · 03/05/2020 17:15

What kind of shit talk is this? The average height for a full grown adult woman in the UK is 5'3 so yes at half a foot above that 5'9 is tall.

EatingIsMyHobby · 03/05/2020 17:20

5ft at age 9! Not 5ft 9!

Happyhappy37 · 03/05/2020 17:43

My 15 year old son is 5ft 4in. He's always been one of the shortest in his class. He's never really had a massive growth spurt. Just grows slowly. He's now getting really anxious about not growing any taller 😬

harstobmum · 03/05/2020 18:45

@EatingIsMyHobby sorry this wasn't meant as a competition, it's just that my little girl seems so tall to me already. My 13 yo ds is the same height as her, so I'd lose the competition with him Wink Also calling it a competition would insinuate that being tall is better, which doesn't seem fair for shorter people.

My nearly 9 year daughter is about 4ft9... Been high percentile for height since being a baby. I'm not expecting her to grow overly tall, as I stopped growing at 11/12 like PPs. I was taller than my mum when I left Primary School (and my teenage brother at that age). My mum thinks she is taller Han me at a similar age, so maybe she will get o 5ft8 or 9. Her dad is 5ft7 like me.

She has the same foot size as her grandmother. Now that is about freaky...

It's not a competition, but extremes do stand out.shes the tallest girl in her Cub pack, but until recently was the youngest girl (2nd youngest altogether) but the Yr3s started appearing after Christmas. She looks top end of average at school, but is one of the youngest in the year.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/05/2020 18:58

I have stretch marks too!

My height never really bothered me. My size 8 feet did, however (there were VERY few size 8s for girls / women back then).
