What was your newborn like?

My first DS was hard work and I never had my second until now, when DS1 is 8!

DS2 is so super relaxed it is worrying me, he hardly cries, is alert though, but sleeps well, has day and night the right way around and is generally so chill.

Anyone else had a newborn like DS2? What are they like now they're a bit more grown?

Strange, I thought having a crying baby would worry me, but having such a placid one is really worrying me.

My first was chilled out. Slept well from very early despite being in pain and hospitalised throughout her first year due to a stomach issue. She was just quiet. Even during her treatment (including injections) she didn't cry. She was always aware and watching. Very alert. She said her first words very very early. She's a clever little thing. She was an easy toddler. She's still a world and people watcher and that's how she learns.

My second was/is the opposite, as you describe she cried and cried. Had colic and let everyone know. She is the most active toddler I have ever met (I have met a lot as I work with children) and she is into everything. You cannot leave her in a room alone. She will find mischief when and where she can. She has never slept more than a few hours at night. We joke that she opened her eyes at birth and that's it she's awake. She walked and ran as soon as she could. She tests me to my limit and is exhausting. That said, she is loving and comical and has so many positive attributes.

Despite having the same life and upbringing so far they could not be any more different. Funny isn't it.

I had two chilled out babies (boys) and two absolute nightmares (girls). My DS’s were both quiet all of the time, they just seemed to sleep a lot and were happy and content when awake. DD’s were incredibly needy in comparison and screamed a lot.

A dream! Very laid back, good sleeper, not demanding. She's 14mo and still very chilled out but very lively, social and curious. But still sleeps well and is happy to play independently and doesn't cry much, unless you stop her getting in the snack drawer Grin

DC1 screamed non stop until he was 14 weeks

DC2 never cried. Ever. I actually forgot he was there once. He would go a whole week without crying. No exaggeration.

DC3, was a bit more like DC1 but not quite as bad because I had a few colicky reflux tricks up my sleeve from DC1

Similar to whatsgoinon, 2 DSes were very chill and DD was very hard work! I remember being really worried around DS1's first Christmas, he was 9 months old and DH brought in him to show him the Christmas tree, he gave it one glance up and down then put his head on DH's shoulder to sleep, no interest at all! DD and DS2 were desperate to reach out and grab baubles or touch the tinsel.

DS1 was a handful around 3-4, very stubborn and would always want the opposite of what was happening. Other than that year or so he's always been very laid back and easygoing, maybe too laid back actually (now 18).
DD has always been a handful and prone to flying off the handle, she's now 12 so even more unpredictable now hormones are coming into play!
DS2 is still quiet but full of energy, he's usually awake at 6am and if he wakes up at all in the night he doesn't really go back to sleep. Never really did much napping as a toddler either. As soon as his eyes open he's 100% awake and ready to go. Very focused on his interests! Now 10.

Fab. Slept, fed, slept, fed...perfect until 4 months then she just screamed.

DC1- chilled. Slept from 7pm-8am every night without a peep.

DC2- pain in the arse to get to sleep but once asleep slept until 8am. Mainly chilled through the day but a terror at tea time

DC3- the devil rose up from hell. She needed held all day long and sleeps in our bed every night.
