Secret Hitler (need a minimum of 5 people)
Nyet
Sushi go
Zombie dice
Deep sea adventure

Mysterium, Dead of Winter and Lords of Waterdeep are all great, but probably too complicated if you have young children. Obama Llama is fun for all ages if you enjoy charades. Agree with Codenames too - the picture version is best

Where in the World is our favourite at the moment. Even with my amazing geographic knowledge I can still be beaten by an 8 year old! 🤣

notchickenagain · 02/05/2020 11:18

Never heard of Where in the World I meant Who knows Where!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 02/05/2020 11:23

Codenames, Exploding Kittens, Unstable Unicorns, Bananagrams, Throw Throw Burrito all recent favourites here.

nostaples · 02/05/2020 11:28

Blimey, I've never heard of most of these. Thank you so much!

7 wonders (duel for two players), settlers of catan (or rivals for catan for two players), pandamic, century, Istanbul the dice game.

fairyfingers · 02/05/2020 11:41

Acer Tree - that's our games cupboard!

We have been revisiting yatzee recently. Can get the score sheets online so you just need 5 dice.

Also Uno. I had never played it as a kid but dh had and all 4 of us love it

cheeseismydownfall · 02/05/2020 11:46

Would highly recommend One Night Ultimate Werewolf for teens. Make sure you download the app that goes with it. Hugely fun and very replayable.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/05/2020 11:55

@Acertree have you played the plague inc board game? I love the app but wasn't sure how the board game would be.

iklboo · 02/05/2020 12:04

Taskmaster - based on the TV show. It's really good fun.

Dyrne · 02/05/2020 12:12

Think all my favourites have been mentioned: Quirkle, Ticket to Ride, Codenames etc. Would also recommend Qwixx though it’s not necessarily a “board” game. And Dobble, but I’m shit at it. Grin

Dyrne · 02/05/2020 12:14

Oh and if you like Pit, you’d like Happy Salmon - like Pit but you need to find someone to do actions with you so all need to be standing.

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/05/2020 12:17

For older teens
Catan (original settlers)
Castles Mad King Ludwig
Carcassonne
Tiny towns

Exposition · 02/05/2020 13:16

Scythe
Android Netrunner (2 player only though)
Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space (the more that play, the better)

Shoxfordian · 02/05/2020 13:37

Ticket to ride
Pandemic
Takenoko
Arkham horror although maybe not for the kids
I like forbidden island, what didn't you like about it op?

TrickyD · 02/05/2020 16:57

Dobble mentioned upthread, excellent, great fun and does not go on too long.

Servers · 02/05/2020 16:59

What do you meme.

duletty · 03/05/2020 08:04

(15/13/11 year olds)

Chameleon
Labyrinth
Ligretto

movinggoalposts · 03/05/2020 12:15

Triominos is good.

You can download a free print at home Cards Against Humanity family edition. Hours of fun (once you’ve spent an hour cutting out)!

yelyah22 · 03/05/2020 12:19

Time Stories - like an escape room in a game, with surprises to uncover. We love it and have every episode of it, I imagine it'd be good for teens? IIRC, there are some vague references to sex in one of the episodes (Estrella Drive) but otherwise family friendly I think!

Lessstressedhemum · 03/05/2020 14:06

My ds2 recommends King of New York, Carcassonne, Thunder Road (mostly liked by teen boys), Settlers of Catan, Wiz-War, Eight Minute Empire Legends, Rome and Carthage, Frag, Smash Up, Khrysos Hunters, Arena of the Plains Walkers.

He runs board games clubs and reviews for a webzine and reckons that these are suitable for novice board gamers.

One2Three4Five6 · 03/05/2020 15:16

Favourites in my house include:
Ticket to Ride
One Night Ultimate Werewolf (there are Alien and Vampire versions too)
Settlers of Catan
King of Tokyo
Sheriff of Nottingham
Fluxx (there are lots of versions of this, Pirate or Space version are the most played in my house)
Munchkin (Again, lot's of different versions of this, and you can mix and match some decks)
Sushi Go
Exploding Kittens
Tsuro (super quick and easy)
Takenoko
Carcassonne
Zombie Dice

Look up Wil Wheatons Table Top on youtube for ideas too, he has plenty and shows you how to play them too.

Throw throw burrito is good if you have space, it's a fast paced combination between a card game and dodgeball, we got an early version after backing it on kickstarter and it was hilarious to play!
