First car and insurance

DS17 recently passed his test. We plan to put some money towards his first car, to add to his savings. He’ll have about £2500. But all the cars he likes in that price range seem to come in at about £3500 for one year’s insurance. Interested to know if you or your DS/DD have found a car and an insurer that is affordable at 17? Thanks

DS has a £500 limit for his first car and I've noticed that insurance for under 1.2 engines are a tad less, so he's sticking to those parameters. Insurance is still ridiculously expensive though
