Gas Meter Dead!

My gas meter died 2 months ago (no display). I have contacted supplier (Green Network Energy) who are waiting for meters to come into stock before they fit me a new one.

My question is, does the meter still record my usage even if there is no display? I feel that I may end up paying more if my consumption has to be estimated. They would have to base estimates on last year's readings and last year was a lot colder so we would have used more gas central heating.

Thanks in advance.

No - the meter does not store consumption data once it is dead, so the period between your last actual reading and when the new meter is installed will be estimated.

Hope that helps Smile

@hellosunshine5
Thank you for confirming! At least I know now. May as well ramp up the heating with gay abandon now the weather has gone colder!

It will only be the battery in the display that has run out. Is it a smart meter as a smart meter will still send remote readings.

@SkaLaLand
It is a smart meter, but a very old one. It was installed 8 years ago and apparently did not function as a smart meter once we changed from the original supplier Eon.
