Tech help - Transferring data from old Samsung to new one (same SIM)

Sorry, posted elsewhere but there is very little traffic

How do I do it if I am not changing SIM?

Surely both need a SIM in for it to work?

You don't need 2 SIM cards.

Is your data stored on a micro USB card? If so, then it's a simple case of backing things up to the card and then moving the card into the slot in your new phone.

If you don't use a memory card, I'll assume you back your phone up to a cloud service. In which case you just have to sign in to those services when you install those apps on your new phone.

Depending on how old your old Samsung phone is, you may be able to create a Samsung account and install their Smart Switch app, which easily moves everything and installs all the apps you have on your old phone, onto your new phone. I did this recently and it was a doddle.

Thank you.

I do have the Smart Switch ability but I have never created any accounts / used the cloud / backed anything up anywhere.

I also don't think I have any kind of memory card? In fact current phone keeps telling me I have no space.

I just cannot see how the new phone will be able to do anything until it has a SIM (which is in old phone?)

Sorry should have put "tech help for idiot" in thread title Grin

It's ok, you really don't need 2 SIMs. What you do need is internet connection on both phones, and to turn on NFC if you're going to use the Smart Switch app.

Ok, so let's assume you use WhatsApp, SMS, Gmail and camera/photos. If you want all your current messages/SMS/emails/photos moved on your new phone, it is best to back them up before attempting to move them.

If you want, PM me and I'll talk you through it as best I can.

Thanks @EdithHope

I'm going to leave it until tomorrow, when DP is home to have my motley crew.

I'll send you a PM, and if you are able to help... fab. No worries if not though!!
