When did people start saying “fast forward”...

...when recounting stories? You know the sort of thing

“...this was a year ago and I was left holding the sheep. Fast forward to now, and it isn’t even talking to me”.

The concept of fast forwarding has been well known since the days of VHS but I don’t remember it being used in that way.

Nowadays you see it loads, especially on here. At some point people started to think of their lives more like a film. I wonder when, and where, it all started?

There is a current thread about phrases on MN which are annoying.
I was gong to add ‘Fast Forward’, but now I will not need to.
I have only seen it used on here, never heard it in RL.
