My daughter is turning three and I want to get her some new books as she loves reading stories together. She loves rhyming books and pretty much anything by Julia Donaldson. Would love to hear what books your children loved at this age. Thank you.

Hairy McClairy

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/05/2020 08:29

A recent one my Gdcs (3 3/4 and just 5) have really enjoyed is Poo In The Zoo (in rhyme and funny)

NannyR · 01/05/2020 08:30

Shirley Hughes Alfie books.

Sammy867 · 01/05/2020 08:34

Dd is 4.
Her favourites are kittie lacey the fairytale hairdresser. We got the set from book people with her cousin, who is 4 as well, and they both love this series. They call each other on FaceTime and “read” the story together.

Anything by dr seuss. The harder it is for me to read the more enjoyable apparently.

Milly molly Mandy stories.

We are now onto chapter books so things like Holly Webb or black beauty, Peter rabbit or Alice in wonderland

Pascha · 01/05/2020 08:35

Hairy McClary books are brilliant and funny rhyming stories.

Oliver Jeffers books:
The Way Back Home
Lost and Found
Stuck - when my children were preschool they found this one especially funny.

All the Mog books.

DelurkingAJ · 01/05/2020 08:37

Hairy Maclary
Hugless Douglas
Aliens Love Underpants
You Choose
Rupert Bear Annuals (a throw back to my childhood)

All popular here with DS2 (now just 4).

marshmallowkittycat · 01/05/2020 08:40

My son is turning 3 next month and loves Supertato or anything by Sue Hendra really. Not rhyming, though. And all the 'oi' books such as 'Oi Cat'.

InDubiousBattle · 01/05/2020 08:43

Pip and Posy books have always been a big hit for us.

Rebelwithallthecause · 01/05/2020 08:48

DA who’s nearly 3 loves the Oliver Jeffers books

StarDanced · 01/05/2020 08:52

Ds loves The Storm Whale and The Storm Whale in Winter. They are lovely books with beautiful illustrations. He is also a big fan of the NHM dinosuar books- Dinosaur Roar, Dinosaur Stomp, Dinosaur Boo and Dinosaur Munch. These have good rhymes and then give some facts about the main dinosaur at the end.

LajesticVantrashell · 01/05/2020 08:55

Another vote for Storm Whale here. He also loves Cat in the Hat, the Curious George books, Angelica Sprockett and The Boy Who Said No.

PowerslidePanda · 01/05/2020 08:56

The Lion Inside is a lovely, funny rhyming book.

Curlysusie · 01/05/2020 08:57

All the Oi books are good for rhyming
Oi cat/dog/frog etc

TheVanguardSix · 01/05/2020 09:00

Dear Zoo

Harold and the Purple Crayon
Going on a Bear Hunt

I was searching Mumsnet yesterday for this very topic - books for DD’s 3rd birthday.

I’ve ordered:

The Library Lion
Caroline Rabei lights book
Oi Frog

We’re already reading and enjoying the original Winnie the Pooh books.

I got her the Shirley Hughes collected album for Christmas which we both enjoy. It’s separated into sections for toddlers, preschool, older children so has a useful variety of shorter/longer, simpler/more complicated.

DD loves the Beatrix Potter books but I find them irritating and dull Blush

SparklingLime · 01/05/2020 09:02

Another rec for ‘You Choose’.

Books for three year olds
TheVanguardSix · 01/05/2020 09:07

Oh and also:
Library Lion
Giraffes Can't Dance
Babar the Elephant

The books I've listed have been loved by my 18-year-old, 10-year-old, and 5-year-old... and even some by me when I was a child! Smile

ThatsWhatHeroesDo · 01/05/2020 09:09

My 3yo is obsessed with Grumpy Cat. We have to act it out, I'm the Grumpy Cat and he's Kitten

NameChange30 · 01/05/2020 09:13

All of DS's favourites have been mentioned already, but adding to the votes:
Hairy McClairy
Dr Seuss
Storm Whale books (he loves Grandma Bird)

Talcott2007 · 01/05/2020 09:21
