Can you leave cushions outside on garden furniture if covered?

Just took delivery of a new sofa set for our garden. It has massive cushions on it. The company suggest not leaving them outside and we have ordered a storage unit to put them in when the weather is bad or in winter etc. But the coming week looks good weather. Dry. So can I leave the cushions on and just cover it with the waterproof cover? I really don’t want to put them on and off each day!

It's a faff but I would remove them every time, they get mildewed otherwise.

That is not the answer I was hoping for 😩

It isn't a good idea really. However we do leave the cushions out on the sofa on the deck which has a glass roof.

Can anyone explain why? I mean, if the cover is waterproof, the rain won't get to the cushions, so why can't they be left out?

We leave the cushions on ours from about March - October (under waterproof cover) but put away in a storage box over the winter.

They are absolutely fine.

The covers aren't generally waterproof, they're water resistant. If the insides get wet you'll get mildew.

I keep mine on April to October and over winter store inside.
U I really wouldn't leave them out

MogHog · 01/05/2020 18:14

Oh and do watch out that the box you have bought is waterproof and not weather proof...

Wiifitmama · 01/05/2020 20:09

Thank you. I have every intention of putting them away when weather looks bad for a few days, or certainly over winter. The box (shed) we have bought is waterproof.

The cover we have seems to be water proof. I ran water over it in the sink and it sort of repelled the water and bounced off! Nothing went through.

I would just like to be able to leave the cushions out over a few days when we know we are going to use them a lot and not put them away each night.

Just to clarify, I mean a cover that goes over the whole couch - like a big plastic green thing. Not the covers on the cushions themselves. I know those covers are not waterproof!

I think it depends on the quality of the furniture and the cover. We left our Kettler set out all winter and they still look as good as new

Splitsunrise · 01/05/2020 20:21

Yes depends on materials etc. It will still get damp even if good weather
