Is it true that in France they celebrate May 1st with Lily of the Valley? Found this info below:

Steeped in tradition and history, the lily of the valley flower is a very special gift in France during the month of May.

French tradition
Traditionally, sprigs of lily of the valley are handed out to family members on Fête du Muguet (or Labour Day). It's a tradition that has been celebrated for many years, since the 16th Century, and is seen as a symbol of good luck for the upcoming year.

Yes. True. Kids bring it home from school where I live and saw it in the shops this morning.

Yes. It's a big problem for the growers this year as the florists aren't open. They are set to lose more than 12 million euros. Just shows how much lily of the Valley they normally sell.

Yes, one of my friends in France sends me a card with muguet on every year.

Lovely thank you

I read about this last year in a book about the SOE in WW2 - a lady running a safe house in England when they bought agents back from France was given a bunch by one of the French, which I found incredibly moving - remembering something so small in all that horror

Ooh I don't actually remember this. I used to bring a lily home for my mum from school but I seem to think that was for Mother's Day?

Yes, have already been sent 2 virtual bunches this morning from friends and our neighbour brought round some last week as it was flowering early. The village florist has also arranged a click and collect service specially for today!

Yes. Was a bit surprised the first time I was given some by a colleague, but he was taking his duty to fully introduce me to French culture seriously and enjoyed each one of these things. He was only disappointed I was too young to be encouraged to make a hat for Ste Catherine's Day :)
