According to dh you need to spend 500 quid for a decent one ?

No idea, but my FIL bought one recently that you top up the ink from a bottle rather than cartridges - says it's brilliant - saves a lot on expensive cartridges as that's where they make you spend your money.

I got an hp one years ago for £25, I signed up to instant ink so they post ink out to me when I need it.

ForestDad · 30/04/2020 12:48

Epson make well regarded units. I got one recon from eBay for £37 delivered. I'm about to fit a continuous ink supply system to it (£70 with genuine ink) which allows cheap top ups. Alternatively their ecotank ones you top up directly.
Important if you buy an inkjet is to print something every week or two to stop the print heads clogging.

I got one last year from Argos - HP Envy, wireless. Think it was £40ish, no complaints!

Mallysmomma · 30/04/2020 12:50

Yep I got the HP envy one from Argos too £40 and no complaints here either.

mencken · 30/04/2020 12:52

I use a Brother Laser printer as I don't print that often - laser toner doesn't dry out in the same was as inkjet cartridges.

you can get black and white ones for around £80.

unicornsarereal72 · 30/04/2020 12:54

My work provide the staff with hp envy printers. No complaints here.

mollibu · 30/04/2020 12:55

HP envy one from Argos, think it cost me about £40ish and comes with 5 months worth of free ink.

noenergy · 30/04/2020 12:58

I can recommend Epson Eco tank it was around £170 from Currys this time last year and we print loads each week and still haven't ran out of ink, thought it was expensive when buying it but been well with it and it was recommended to us by someone else

Another vote for the HP Envy. Great little printer and scanner.

AvoidingRealHumans · 30/04/2020 13:12

Day one of home school I bought a HP envy from argos for £50, had no issues with it.
I'm signed up to instant ink so don't need to worry about ink running out.
Definitely don't need to spend £500 on one

newtb · 30/04/2020 13:16

Bought a colour laser over 2 years ago and still on the 2nd refill of toner.

newtb · 30/04/2020 13:17

Gah! Forgot it cost about £200 and 4 refill toners about £35.

Blogdog · 30/04/2020 13:19

HP envy - great printer and the instant ink subscription works really well. Went through a canon (great) and an Epson (broke within 3 months) before those but v happy with what we have now.

Dowser · 30/04/2020 13:21

Ours is HP , deskjet?
Wasn’t expensive
Been going strong for several years now

michaelbaubles · 30/04/2020 13:22

I've just bought one of those £40 HP printers with 5 months free ink. Pretty pleased with it actually, it does what I want it to do and if it dies after 5 months so be it!

frogsbreath · 30/04/2020 13:23

We have this one, brilliant all rounder and very cheap. Wee app to use with it, I buy cheap ink cartridges off amazon and they work great.

Such a cheap thing that makes a big difference in our life 😂 before home schooling it mostly printed Lego colour in pages but it's getting a good workout now

Can anyone reccomend a printer that’s not 500 quid
2007Millie · 30/04/2020 13:25

HP instant ink. If you print lots it'll save you a small fortune

SassenachWitch · 30/04/2020 13:31

I always see the HP Envy recommended and wonder why, I guess it depends on how much printing you’re doing.

Work purchased one for me a few months back, because it was cheap I suppose, but the ink only lasts me 2 days and I only work 6 hours a day.

Blogdog · 30/04/2020 13:32

Although make sure you’re on the right plan with the instant ink. Been doing a lot more printing with homeschooling and got a shock when I saw the charges!

80sMum · 30/04/2020 13:37

I've got an older version of this HP printer. I've had it for 9 years and never had any problems with it. It has a very small footprint too. If all you need is a basic monochrome printer, I highly recommend it.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 30/04/2020 13:38

Can anyone who got the HP envy one give me an idea of how much they spend on ink vs how much they use it?

I need one for occasional use but someone told me if you buy a cheap one you then end up spending loads on the ink?

LER83 · 30/04/2020 13:53

I got the hp envy one in March, it was £50 and it has been great. Signed up for instant ink, did the £1.99 for 50 pages. Although got 2 months free, up to 300 pages each month, which has been great for homeschooling!

LilyRose88 · 30/04/2020 14:40

I got an Epson Ecotank from Amazon for around £220 back at the start of March. It comes with loads of ink and you just refill the tanks when it needs more ink. It also has a scanner, which I need for work, so it is really useful. It had good reviews and so far I am very happy with it.

HathorX · 30/04/2020 15:11

I got a cheap Cannon printer, it has not eaten ink but I'm careful. For example during DD'S homeschool I'm stripping out the huge pictures the school put into some worksheets and printing on the draft setting to save ink.
