Yoga and Apple Watch

Hello. I’m hoping someone can help. I wondered if choosing a “yoga workout” on my Apple watch will count towards my exercise ring or not? How will it know if I’m doing downward dog etc? I’ve recently started the C25K and was thinking of doing Yoga/Pilates on my off days, but hoping that they will still close my exercise ring!!

Thanks.

Yes it will. It won’t know what moves you are doing. On mine, say I did a 20min yoga session, and I’d selected Yoga from the exercise list, then it would have 20mins on the exercise ring when finished.

Perfect. Thank you.

It depends on your heart rate I think. If I select Outdoor Walk and meander down the road it doesn’t register as exercise minutes on my ring (although I get workout minutes) but if I do a brisk walk it does.

noblegiraffe is that not because to be classed as exercise a walk has to be brisk? Whereas for yoga it’s not quite the same. I’ll try it out today and let you know! I’m sure everyone is interested! 😁

noble is right. It works out if you’re exercising by looking at your heart rate (and location and pace of movement if you’re going for a walk/run etc). That’s why you clock up odd minutes outside of set workout times (like two minutes of ‘DANCE TO ALEXA, MUMMY, DAAAANCE NOWWW’)

I do yoga/Pilates fusion a few times a week and it logs the workouts and exercise minutes with no bother. There’s something I can’t recall the specifics of as well that it gets to know your heart rate, breathing and habits over time, so adjusts the thresholds for what it classes as you exercising according to you as an individual.

Ok. So found a Pilates workout on YouTube and selected a yoga workout on my watch. It logged the minutes as exercise and has closed my ring! Thanks.

You should also be able to select Pilates on your watch.

Emma ooh yes, just looked. That’s annoying now that one is logged as yoga and it was pilates! Never mind! Thank you.
