Safeguarding training

Hi all
I’m looking at a bit of a career change into working with children/young people. I have a good, relevant degree and postgrad degree but a lot of the jobs I see are asking for a safeguarding qualification as ‘desirable’. Does anyone know a good, online provider? I’ve seen the NSPCC does one for about £35 , is it any good in a professional capacity?

Thanks wise MN’ers!

Check your local county council site. Ours has an online course you can do, and some are doing the proper courses online at the moment as well.

Amazing thank you x

They seem to be all postponed face to face courses from the website, but I’ve emailed someone there who may be able to point me in the right direction

Yeah, all the main courses will be off at the moment, but you should be able to join a waiting list for when they start back up, or if they have online courses.

Do you mind me asking which council you are?

This is a good one that I think is free for everyone.

I did an nspcc one for Children in Performance as part of a chaperone licence from county council.

I'm a childminder and this year for my Safeguarding training I did the online course offered by Pacey. I think it was about £20. Ofsted accept this Pacey training for childminding if the job you're interested in has any Ofsted involvement at all.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 29/04/2020 20:03

Not sure Prevent is where you want to start tbh.

Booboodisney · 29/04/2020 20:39

I’ll look up Pacey, thanks.

I’m assuming any workplace I get a job in may want me to do their own mandated training anyway, but this is just for my own knowledge and CV

You can do this course for free. It's level 2, so equivalent to GCSE. www.bcot.ac.uk/subject-areas/education-and-training/mdfl071/
