She had been suffering from Alzheimers for a decade.

When i was a little girl i remember watching The Gentle Touch ...........the first police drama with a woman in the leading role.

RIP Jill

I remember the series, and that's a lovely tweet from her son Flowers

She was a wonderful actress. Real understated power in her acting. That series had a real impact on me.

so sad, I was watching the reruns of The Gentle Touch on Talking Pictures TV. It was really good

BruceAndNosh · 29/04/2020 16:16

So sad, Her husband gave an interview in 2015 in which he said she only recognised him some times. How hard to face another 5 years like that

BestIsWest · 29/04/2020 16:33

I saw her in a McDonalds queue in the mid eighties. Absolutely beautiful.

puffinandkoala · 29/04/2020 16:37

She was also Elizabeth in the Onedin Line. It's sad that she had Alheimers.

RIP.

loved the Gentle Touch. The days when we only had 3 tv channels! There seemed to be more on telly then as well..

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 30/04/2020 15:48

I used to love that show too, Jill Gascoine was terrific in it. I'm sorry to hear that she's died now.

CoolCarrie · 30/04/2020 16:03

That’s sad news, but her son’s tribute is lovely. The Gentle Touch was great, as pp said it as good to see a woman in the lead role, same with Juliet Bravo. RIP Jill.
