To be fed up of people mentioning my height?

I'm 5 foot 3 and people seem to always mention my height! I don't think my height is unusual for a woman??

OP posts:
Sapphire387 · 29/04/2020 19:21

I’m 5’4. Have been called ‘petite’ several times. It annoys me that I have to keep buying petite clothing when I am average height. I’ve noticed through shopping online recently that they tend to use 5’9 models for regular sizes. I hardly know any women who are 5’9.

WYP2018 · 29/04/2020 19:24

I get it too at 5’11. Although it’s just people making conversation isn’t it, just like when you walk along with a baby in the pram and they ask if they sleep for you. It’s just something to say, I guess most people don’t mean to cause offence.

Mummyshark2018 · 29/04/2020 19:24

I'm smaller than you and never had any comments Hmm

Bertucci · 29/04/2020 19:27

It's on the short side, but hardly noteworthy.

TeddyIsaHe · 29/04/2020 19:29

I’m 5ft4 and dp is 6ft 8. People can’t help themselves, and if we go out the amount of comments from drunk people is enough to make me want to stay at home!

I get it’s unusual, but every single person thinks they’re the first one to make a joke about it Hmm

needsahouseboy · 29/04/2020 19:30

I’m just under 5 foot with huge tits!! I get fed up of both those being mentioned!

Xylophonics · 29/04/2020 19:31

I'm shorter than you and don't get comments

moanyhole · 29/04/2020 19:33

Im 5 foot and DH is 6 foot 4. I get it often at work but its brutal when out with DH.

RyanBergarasTeeth · 29/04/2020 19:38

Im 5'2 and dp is 6'4. Apart from people telling him how tall he is i dont hear many comments on my height in a long time.

PumpkinP · 29/04/2020 19:49

This is weird as I'm 5ft 3 and have never been called short, ever.

KaptenKrusty · 29/04/2020 19:52

Haha I’m 5ft 1 - get this regularly - doesn’t bother me at all though to be honest - quite like being small!

The poster who asked about trousers - Uniqlo will take them up for you as a service in store!

Top shop jeans are good As they do different lengths rather than just a standard

Also I get nudie jeans (again they have a huge range of styles and will alter for you)

Petite range can be good

But yes - a lot of the time I struggle to get my length in trousers unfortunately 😂

coolcatsandkitten · 29/04/2020 19:55

I’m 5ft 3.

Nobody has ever commented on my height since secondary school. And that’s only because I went from being the tallest girl in primary to being an average shortie in secondary.

I love my height!

If anyone comments tell them they’re boring you or just yawn at them 🥱

indecisivewoman81 · 29/04/2020 20:01

Yep I'm 5ft 2 and never used to really notice my height but since changing jobs people mention it to me all the time and it definitely gets me down.

Lilmisskittykat · 29/04/2020 20:06

I'm 5ft3 and no one has ever made a big deal of it .. sometimes when I wear flats they might just say oh your not as tall as I thought you were but it doesn't bother me

HaddawayAndShite · 29/04/2020 20:09

5ft and I can’t remember the last time someone commented about it. Apart from DP who takes the piss when use the potato masher to close the kitchen windows / reach things from the shelves

Piemam · 30/04/2020 08:28

5'1 here and DD (13) finds it hilarious that she towers over me. Bf well over 6' so we have the odd tall/shorty jokes but overall I'm happy; very easy in manoeuvring about in gigs in my youth!

newyearnoeu · 30/04/2020 16:42

I agree, so annoying! And what's weird is that from this thread (and real life) there only seems to be a very small amount between what people consider to be noticeably short (5'3) and noticeably tall (5'9) which is ridiculous, really.

My pet peeve is when shops put things in the 'petite' section on high shelves. Know your audience! Grin

Onthedancefloor · 30/04/2020 16:53

I feel like this when larger size bras are right on the floor, so you have to stoop down to try and see if they have your size, and then it's hard to get up again!

Umnoway · 30/04/2020 16:54

5 ft 3 is average for a woman in the UK.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 30/04/2020 16:58

My DD is 6ft so she gets the opposite problem

SparkyBlue · 30/04/2020 17:04

I'm 4"11. People really can be rude. For those asking about clothes M&S do extra short jeggings that actually fit properly .

tinytemper66 · 30/04/2020 17:05

Try being under 5ft! 😂

TheMandalorian · 30/04/2020 17:11

I'm 5ft 3in and noone has ever commented on my height. It's perfectly average.
However I do have a resting bitch face. I also know several much shorter and much taller people so my average height is not noteworthy.
Start channeling an aggressive pissed off vibe when out and about.

BlueBooby · 30/04/2020 17:11

I'm 5'3.5, right in the middle but I usually say 5'4. My height used to get commented on a lot too. I don't know why though, I know lots of women my height and smaller.

SliAnCroix · 30/04/2020 17:15

I thought uou were going to be 4"11or 6
1'

People must just be looking for something to say.
Im shorter than you and nobody has mentioned my height in 25 years!
