Coloured Toilet Rolls.

What's happened to them?

Well, I know what's happened to them really. People don't want them any more so they don't buy them, so shops don't sell them. Why does everybody just want white? The biggest choice nowadays is whether you want your bottom wiped by a puppy or a koala.

Why don't you want peach loo roll any more? Or how about having 2 holders side by side and loading one with pink and one with blue?

I used to get some from Wilko, it was the same colour as the purpley sugared almonds Grin
It was also thicker and softer than any of the current brands!

Mistymonday · 28/04/2020 16:48

We only buy recycled loo roll (I don’t want beautiful trees cut down so I can wipe my bottom on them thanks!), and that only comes in one shade “recycled”.Grin

Clawdy · 28/04/2020 16:48

For some reason I always grab the cream coloured loo roll. Don't see it very often though. It just looks nicer in the holder! Grin

MyGirlDaisy · 28/04/2020 16:53

This thread is bringing back memories of coloured tissues too - there was a cube box where you could get two colours, pink and purple that I used to display in my bedroom, must have been early 80’s Smile

When I was at university (100 years ago) all the toilet rolls were pink, a sort of boring mid pink, and the texture was distinctly rough. It was very distinctive, so if you ever went to someones house and they had that kind of toilet roll you knew they had knicked it from the university.

thebabessavedme · 28/04/2020 17:56

we always always had white when I was a kid, my dm pronounced coloured loo roll as 'common' Grin Confused, but not quite as common as eating in the street or not wearing tights. Grin

the rules surrounding not being 'common' were very complex Grin

I had some of that brightly coloured stuff once - made me feel like I was wiping with napkins.

TBH I don't really think very hard about what colour the loo roll is, although I might buy a different colour for a change, so I think I might miss it if it was never around again.

enoughofthebullshit · 28/04/2020 18:00

I always buy the Christmas pattern loo roll from M&S in December. I just find it cheerful !

Starisnotanumber · 28/04/2020 18:24

There's a place in Lisbon Portugal that's is called the world's sexisiest toilet. It has every colour of toilet roll you can imagine and some you can't you pick the toilet roll colour you want and use the loo.
It sells takeaway rolls as well as brightly coloured tissues.
I go to some great places on holiday

MyGirlDaisy

Oh yes I loved coloured tissues in the 80s!

I remember the time I used an entire box torn in to strips and tied them to make cheerleading Pom poms, I thought they were great, my mum wasn’t impressed Grin

Blue! In the avocado bathroom in the house I grew up in, fabulous!

I used to have champagne colour upstairs to match the bathroom, white downstairs, but in desperation, the DH bought 24 white some weeks ago.

This is the stuff you want if you are keen on coloured toilet paper. Superb

exerciseinmypyjamas · 28/04/2020 21:04

This reminds me of clearing out my grans house after she had died. She had toilet rolls of just about every colour. Pink, purple, blue, peach e.t.c. For a good few months I had the stuff stacked in a corner of my bathroom and it was like a kaleidoscope of colour.

midsomermurderess · 28/04/2020 21:30

I was raised in. A family of architects. Coloured toilet paper was regarded as a very poor choice.

Holothane · 28/04/2020 21:35

I buy Christmas ones at Christmas.

Boogiewoogietoo · 28/04/2020 21:39

For those who grew up in 70s/80s

How sad odd. I was only thinking a few days ago that you can't get any variety in toilet paper anymore (well in colour - I realise you can in quality).
I miss the pastel coloured toilet rolls.

I'm 65, i grew up using Izal (the original shiny stuff). We used to crumple it up and kind of rub it together to break down the surface to make it even vaguely soft and absorbent. I guess it was better than the newspaper my parents had grown up with though,

For some reason though (cost I guess) Dad still wanted Izal way after everyone else started using the soft stuff. Eventually mum insisted and we would have a roll of each on the go.

I got married in '76 and used the pastel shades of yellow, blue and pink and then went to the very sophisticated cream (I also had a dark brown bath). Coloured paper didn't flush very well and we were told it was bad for the environment and by the middle 80s was back to using plain white. Although coloured was available.

I haven't used anything but white for years now.

Khione · 28/04/2020 22:45

Oh and mum used to have a crocheted toilet roll doll too but I never did

AdobeWanKenobi · 29/04/2020 04:06

Some of the bigger Tesco’s sold bright coloured loo roll recently. Dd bought some black then excitedly face timed to show me. I asked why. She said why not. Couldn’t really argue.

Ocado subbed my Waitrose white for champagne the other week. Doesn’t sit well with me at all and I’ll be glad when it’s all gone. I like white.

My ultimate loo roll goal is this though...

I grew up in the 90s and we always had coloured roll to match the bathroom. It was very exciting when the blue bathroom was redecorated yellow and we suddenly went from blue to yellow bog roll too!

I’d forgotten about the boxes of coloured tissues. I used to steal them to make elaborate tissue fancy wedding and bridesmaid dresses for my Sindys. I seem
To remember you generally got pink and purple in the cube shaped boxes but if you got a big flat rectangular box you got all the colours of the rainbow which made excellent dresses. I could have staged a stupendous Sunday lesbian wedding with those.
