If I like Emma Bridgewater...

What other mugs will I like?

I love the size of them so I can have half a pint of tea!

I just want one (not a set) so it can be "my" cup. Preferably something a little cheaper though.

Thanks!

Le creuset have good sized mugs. I’ve found them in TK Max at a good discount.

spotthedog12 · 28/04/2020 11:16

@timetest thanks - I've just done a quick google. They have some lovely colours!

I love Emma Bridgewater, have you seen you can get 'seconds' on the website? You can get some mugs for as little as £4.95 sometimes on there so definitely worth keeping an eye out. I've had quite a few seconds and generally it's for the tiniest of marks or a slight mis print.

Also when it reopens TKMaxx sometimes have Bridgewater mugs in.

Cath Kidston big mugs are my other go to mug.

I'd also love an Anthropology mug too.

spotthedog12 · 28/04/2020 11:28

I've got a lovely Emma bridgewater one which I LOVE but it's in the office and I don't know how long it'll be until I see it again so I'm time (and money) wasting and treating myself to a new working from home mug Grin

That's really helpful to know about the "seconds" as I've often wondered what they would be like! Is it just errors on the design, rather than the structure?

Seconds can have a small patch of missing glaze, spin pricks in the glaze or have absolutely no noticeable issues at all in any way.

Word of the wise.. it will come with a huge back mark where the imperfections are to high light it's a second. Don't get pissy and. Turn it round like I did , it just washes off 😂

Moorland Pottery. Also made in Stoke. Almost identical in size and shape to Emma Bridgwater.
Online shop is currently not selling but they can be found on amazon:

Oh also, when normality returns, TK Maxx have EB mugs. Usually £11.99 but if they get red stickered can go to about £4!

TerribleCustomerCervix · 28/04/2020 11:36

Cornishware are beautiful. You can get different sizes and personalise them as well.

I got a set for my sister’s wedding present which went down v well.

TheSpottedZebra · 28/04/2020 11:39

I was going to suggest Cornishware too. Lovely sizes, colours, UK company aiming for more UK production. There's 2nds too I think.

Yes I did that too Grin

All the seconds I've got you can barely tell once you wash off the big black mark, all perfectly usable.

spotthedog12 · 28/04/2020 11:48

@Fuss ahhhhhh our local tourist board used to sell those Moorland ones before it closed a few years ago. I used to love looking at them. Good idea!!!

spotthedog12 · 28/04/2020 11:48

Oh god ha! I'd probably have seen the big black mark and thought "IM NOT ACCEPTING THAT!!" 🤣

I bought an Emma Bridgewater second, and the fault was the tiniest raised dot (pin head sized) in the glaze, inside the bottom of the mug. I think I paid £7.95. It was a daffodil mug I’d been lusting after for ages.

Unfortunately it started a bit of an Emma Bridgewater obsession. Just mugs so far but I’d love to replace my other crockery slowly.

Fuss · 28/04/2020 12:03

@spotthedog12 there is a factory shop thats a bit cheaper, unsure if thats reflected online when thats up and running.

If you ever get to Stoke EB has an amazing factory with cafe, paint your own mug and a huge seconds shop. There are several factories in these parts you can visit, Churchill China for one used to be the people behind Cath Kidston so her wares were often in their factory shop, they were also the people behind the Jamie Oliver ranges as well. Then you have Moorland, Portmerion has an outlet here, Doulton etc

My Mum worked most of her life for Churchill and her staff discount reflected this. I once bought an entire Sanderson Dandelion Clocks dinner service for 6 from the Churchill shop for about £25. It was marvellous.

spotthedog12 · 28/04/2020 12:08

@Fuss ooooh I also have some portmerion stuff too which I got for my son (a little egg cup set and a mug). This sounds like heaven to me!

Have a look at Glosters, they have beautiful hand made (large and small) mugs. They're gorgeous and a joy to use.

Sophie Allport does very pretty designs

everythingisginandroses · 28/04/2020 15:16

@Fuss, I miss Stoke. visited regularly pre-pandemic for Bennettiana, ceramics and the pubs (oh, Titanic...) I need a new teapot, must look into seconds - any manufacturer you'd recommend?

Fuss · 28/04/2020 15:40

@everythingisginandroses probably the Churchill shop as it can be exceptionally cheap, but if you want something stylish then probably Emma Bridgewater.

To be honest any of the factory shops will always have a nice teapot. Never really rated the Doulton outlet on Festival Park for all that.

My personal favourite would be Middleport Pottery though, thats where they film the Great Pottery Throwdown and it's home to Burleigh which has some stunning designs:

I have a mug from here. Unfortunately it broke years ago. I’ve still got it even though it’s broken, because I love it so. They don’t make that pattern anymore either.

everythingisginandroses · 28/04/2020 16:41

Thanks, @Fuss - I love Burleigh too Smile

fairplay · 28/04/2020 18:33
