Mine is D. B. Cooper. He hijacked a beong 727, stole $1.25 million in today's money, and parachuted down to earth with it. His identity is unknown and it's unknown if he survived the plunge to earth.

Yes! The Zodiac! That is one for the unsolved addicts, a rabbit hole from which no definitive answer will ever emerge.....

The most plausible and interesting Jack the Ripper theory I've come across is the one put forward in a documentary by a Swedish journalist.

It bascially says that one of the "witnesses" to one of the murders is the actual killer, who pretended to find the body to divert suspicion. The journalist went into this chap's history and a lot of things seem to match up. Can't recall the name of the documentary, though.

Terrified of this thread (and hooked!). Not sure if it counts but the UFO info released / acknowledged by the US Gov is pretty cool, almost more interesting if it isn’t aliens as it means someone in the world has amazing tech

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/04/2020 12:21

I always wonder what happened to Genette Tate. If she is still alive she'd be in her 50's.

Have you got a link?

Here you go :) www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52457805

I’m not into UFOs but like tech! A lot of fighter jets have been kept secret from the public before so this might be another set :)

WaterIsWide Yes this has fascinated me for a long time too .I remember watching a programme covering young people who disappeared ,and Andrew was included. There has been a lot written about him .I think like you he probably came to harm when in London .There was also some surprise that he was not catching the bus to School ,and walking instead .Maybe due to bullying or some other reason perhaps?Feel so sorry for his parents .He was a talented and gifted young guy ,who had been on a Summer Course for gifted children .Maybe he met someone there? Also the fact that he had family in the South East ,could he have been going to see them and got waylaid ,or just a coincidence ?

DangerousMouse · 29/04/2020 13:17

Ruth Wilson was a school friend of mine, so I'm very interested in her case, I can only speculate though... she was happy at school and had friends but she wasn't popular and she was bullied, so maybe she chose to vanish, a lot doesn't add up though

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 29/04/2020 13:45

Not really an 'unsolved mystery' but Numbers Stations are really creepy. You can hear The Lincolnshire Poacher one on YouTube.

I also wonder about Corrie Mckeague. The evidence does seem to point to him ending up in the landfill and a mistake being made along the way, making it impossible to ever find him in the end Sad

The other one I often wonder about is Brittany Murphy and her husband? She died at home of pneumonia with anaemia as a factor, at the age of 32 and then the exact same thing happened to her husband a few months later with the same cause of death? I always thought that was very strange?

Zaphodsotherhead · 29/04/2020 13:48

Putting in another vote for 'Who put Bella in the Wych Elm'?

Just those words still send a shiver down my spine.

A body found in a tree, during WW2, a woman who was never reported missing. Theories that she was a spy parachuting in, or a prostitute, but nobody knows.

I think one of the saddest things is that so many of these 'found' bodies have never been reported missing. SOMEONE must be missing a mother, sister, lover, friend, surely? The thought that they had nobody to miss them is almost worse than the discovery of the body.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 29/04/2020 14:01

The Andrew Gosden case is sad. He was apparently offered a return ticket which been 50p more but turned it down.
The not knowing would drive you crazy.

This is what always gets me with a lot of these cases.

It’s like Joyce Vincent, whose death wasn’t noticed for over 2 years. There were Christmas gifts in her flat that she’d obviously been planning to give to people. It’s so heartbreaking that nobody thought to ask where she was.

LatteLarry · 29/04/2020 14:05

@mrsmoastytoasty genette tate is widely believed to have been a victim of Robert black

BarefootHippieChick · 29/04/2020 14:05

Going back to the Andrew Gosden case, there's a really good thread on Reddit with a theory that he possibly met someone in his home town, or someone known to his family, who suggested meeting up in London that day. It could be that person said they would give him a lift home which is why he didn't take much with him and only bought a one way ticket, because he planned on being back in the evening. And the supposed sighting of him at Pizza Hut was him waiting for this person. What happened after that, who knows? It's worth a read.

LatteLarry · 29/04/2020 14:09

I believe with Ruth Wilson that she sadly killed her self and her body has never been found. She sent flowers to her mother and took a taxi to the middle of nowhere

It reminds me just a little of Liam Smith who took a bus to the middle of nowhere. Thankfully (although very sadly) his body was found after months of searching but he'd clearly tried to hide himself away. So with Ruth I suspect something similar as the area she was left in by the taxi driver is very isolated as you walk out of it

BarefootHippieChick · 29/04/2020 14:12

I can't see anyone has mentioned Joyce Vincent, the dead woman who lay undiscovered for 2 years. Her death itself isn't so much a mystery, but why did no one report her missing? And who was she wrapping Christmas presents for?

BarefootHippieChick · 29/04/2020 14:13

Ooh sorry has just literally posted something about Joyce Vincent!

Sloth66 · 29/04/2020 14:18

Martin Allen, a 15 year old boy.
He was seen on the underground with a man and overheard not to to try to run. Other witnesses Came forward in response to an appeal . None raised any alarm.
No trace over found of him.

HollowTalk · 29/04/2020 14:24

Does anyone remember a case a few years ago where a guy went into work and left his jacket on his chair and just disappeared? There was quite a search for him and I know that eventually he was found - I think he committed suicide. I think he was in the north of England. I can't remember his name, though.

Applejaxx · 29/04/2020 14:28

I'd totally forgotten about the Al-Hilli's! What a strange story that was.

Duvetstay · 29/04/2020 14:37

I've always been interested in Ruth Wilson as there doesn't seem to be very much information about it and what there is obviously doesn't add up.

The angle that I found interesting was that she was very close to her sister who still lived locally as an adult. If she did start a new life I can't imagine her not getting in touch with her sister to say that she was Ok. Equally if there was something horrible going on with the family (beyond the mothers suicide) it's likely the sister would have moved away too? But odd that the parents didn't do any media to publicise the disappearance.

The most likely option is suicide but box Hill isn't proper country side and is very well walked and explored so why no body?

LatteLarry · 29/04/2020 14:44

@hollowtalk I think you mean Dr Richard Stevens. His body was found by ramblers in a cave I believe

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/04/2020 14:49

Going back to the Andrew Gosden case, there's a really good thread on Reddit

I went down a rabbit hole reading some of the Reddit threads about this case yesterday.

The thing I found most interesting was the man who turned up at a police station saying he had information relating to Andrew.. now it could have been a hoax of course but someone said the police station was quite away from the centre so it would be a random place to just turn up at. He then left and despite trying to track down the man they never had any luck. Makes me wonder who he was and what he knew about the missing teenager.

Also found it interesting that the police appeals still even now in recent years seem to suggest they believe he is still alive, maybe they have extra info that hasn't been publicised.

I hope the family get answers one day.
